LULU Hotel Cologne

Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. We booked a three-night stay, but when we arrived, we discovered that the room had no air conditioning and no refrigerator. This was not just an inconvenience—we were traveling with medication, including insulin, that needed to be kept cold, and our son has asthma. The room was unbearably hot, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. We asked for a fan, but were told the hotel only had 20 fans and that they were all already being used by other guests. If the hotel knows many of its rooms do not have air conditioning, it should provide enough fans or make this clear before guests book. To make matters worse, our room overlooked the garbage area. Opening the window was not an option because of the terrible smell coming from the trash outside. We explained our situation to the staff and asked for a reasonable solution. We were willing to pay for the first night, even though we could not stay, and simply requested a refund for the remaining two nights. They refused without any consideration or empathy. We had no choice but to leave the hotel that same night and find another one nearby, which had air conditioning, excellent service, and treated us with respect. We ended up paying for another hotel while also losing the money we had already paid here. The customer service was terrible. The staff were rude, unhelpful, and showed no concern for our family’s health or comfort. We feel we paid for a service that the hotel failed to provide, and their refusal to offer any fair solution felt completely unacceptable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If you value customer service, honesty, and basic comfort, stay somewhere else.

I am extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Based on my experience, I do not believe it offered value for the amount I paid, and I will be seeking a full refund. The issues began before I even checked in. The website gives the impression that parking is included, but this is only excluded in the small print. In addition, the visitor/tourist tax is also hidden away in the small print instead of being clearly displayed as part of the overall pricing. These additional charges should be made obvious during the booking process, not left for guests to discover later. I found this misleading and it resulted in unexpected extra costs. The noise throughout the stay was unacceptable. There were loud arguments, shouting, and what sounded like fights coming from other rooms during the early hours of the morning. This made it almost impossible to get a good night's sleep. The designated smoking area does not appear to comply with regulations and was far too close to guest rooms and the building. I asked to be moved to a room away from the smoking area, but this request was not accommodated. The rooms have no air conditioning, making them unbearably hot at night. Sleeping comfortably was virtually impossible, especially during warmer weather. This is a significant omission for a hotel charging these rates. Breakfast deteriorated noticeably as the week went on. The first morning was good, but after that there was no fruit salad, no croissants, the bread rolls were stale and hard, and the overall selection became increasingly limited. Guests were also expected to collect their own coffee pot and cream from reception, which is not the standard I would expect. The corridors had a persistent unpleasant smell throughout my stay, particularly on both the ground and upper floors. Although the housekeeping staff cleaned the rooms daily, the odour remained and made walking through the hotel very unpleasant. Communal areas were frequently obstructed by groups of guests, making it difficult to move around comfortably. Finally, I specifically booked and paid for a standard double room with a double bed. Instead, I was given a room with two single beds. I was told I could be moved the following day, but this never happened, despite raising the issue. This is not the room I booked or paid for. Overall, this stay fell well below expectations. Between the misleading information regarding parking and the visitor/tourist tax, the lack of sleep due to excessive noise, the absence of air conditioning, the poor room conditions, the declining breakfast quality, the unpleasant smells throughout the hotel, and the failure to provide the room I booked, I do not believe I received the service or accommodation I paid for. I am therefore requesting a full refund, as I do not feel the hotel delivered the standard that was advertised or reasonably expected. I also strongly recommend that the hotel clearly displays all mandatory charges, including parking fees and visitor/tourist tax, within the advertised price rather than hiding them in the small print, so future guests can make an informed decision before booking.

1 Star The only positive is the good location. We didn't have high expectations, as the hotel is very inexpensive. The lobby and staff were okay, and the room initially seemed acceptable. However, after about five hours in bed, we discovered bed bugs and were bitten several times. I've attached a photo to this review. What's particularly bad is that the problem seems to be well-known. We were there with 12 colleagues and had 6 rooms. Bed bugs were discovered in 5 out of 6 rooms, and several colleagues were also bitten. In addition, the carpets in several rooms were wet. A complaint has already been filed with the health department. My advice: Spend a few euros more and book the A&O Hotel directly across the street. For us, it was definitely our first and last stay there.

An outrage for the price. I was truly speechless, and I'm not usually picky. But how they can offer something like this is beyond me. The mirror in the bathroom was missing, simply nonexistent. Dust rained down from the radiator when I used the hairdryer. The walls were shabby, the TV nearly fell off its mount, but it didn't work anyway. Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. The staff tried their best at breakfast, but they were all untrained. It was chaotic.

The hotel is very outdated. The reception staff are friendly, but the worst thing about this establishment is the lack of air conditioning. So, good luck staying in the heat! Furthermore, the parking lot is very small, so we had to park in an underground public car park which cost us €30 per night. And finally, breakfast was hardly anything to write home about. In short, avoid this hotel if you can.

I've never stayed in such a bad hotel; it looks completely different from the pictures. The sausage at breakfast wasn't refrigerated, the room was dirty and old. There was mold everywhere… It was a complete disaster! Never again!!!

By staying at this hotel, you risk having your car towed away, and you will pay a fine of €235! I arrived at this hotel after a long journey to stop, spend the night until morning, take a shower and drive on, I chose the hotel solely for parking, breakfast and not being expensive, but it turned out that for the €300 that I spent in total, staying there, I could have stayed at some fancy hotel with a pool and jacuzzi and eaten oysters for breakfast! We arrived at around 11pm, parked near the hotel on the street, where there is no sign of a parking ban or any restrictions. I went up to the reception and immediately asked where their parking was, as indicated on Booking, but they replied that they had no parking, unfortunately. I asked what I should do and could I leave my car on the street like that? And showed me the place where it was parked, because it was clearly visible from the reception. They replied that yes, but only until 9am it was allowed. I replied no problem, I'll be here earlier, I just need to spend the night until morning. I went down to the car at 8:30 in the morning, and it wasn't there! I asked where my car was? Another shift was already sitting at the reception and they said they didn't know! I went outside, there was that inspector worker standing there and approaching him I asked what happened and where my car was? He said that it had been evacuated, because cars can't be parked here. I said they told me at the reception that you can leave it here until 9 in the morning. And that there is no sign of prohibition or restriction here. He replied that this sign is on the next street, around the corner, but I can't see it here. He gave me the address where my car is parked in the parking lot. My son and I went back to the reception to say this, and that they told me on the evening shift that you can park here until 9 in the morning. They started to answer very rudely there, the woman shouted that it was not their responsibility at all for parking, they only provide rooms in the hotel. And I would have agreed with this if their reception staff had told me that you can't park here, or that I should look for a parking lot nearby, which by the way is an official one 500 meters from the hotel, but everything was the other way around and after asking several times, they confirmed to me that you can leave your car here, but until 9 am. By the way, the breakfast at the hotel is terrible, for your understanding I will say that it is only hard-boiled eggs, sliced ​​sausage, bread, already spoiled tomatoes and cucumbers, yogurt and jam. Tea and diluted coffee. The hotel is very old, needs renovation, there is a bad smell everywhere in the corridors, dirty carpets. The room is very simple, but there was clean bedding and hot water. The mattress is very hard.
