Legal since 1832. The 2009 constitution (Art. 14) and Ley 045 (2010) ban discrimination on sexual orientation and gender identity; Art. 63 defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Since March 2023 (SCP 0577/2022) the civil registry must register same-sex de facto unions; no marriage or adoption. Ley 807 (2016) allows administrative name and sex change. One court-ordered marriage was registered (Santa Cruz, Aug 2026).
