This was such a mixed bag for me. First, front desk service from Tessa D was great. She absolutely saved this review from being 2 stars, because so much was lacking in other service areas. When I arrived my bathroom had a leak from the ceiling and they wouldn’t move me to a new room because they were booked. The only problem is that I can’t have been the last guest to check in for the night and it should have been simple to get me moved. Instead I couldn’t really get ready properly while maintenance was in my room in the 20 minutes I had between checking in and heading out. I had to go off to a dinner and not know what I’d be coming back to. They did not clean up the drywall left on the bathroom floor. Minibar fridge was stocked with their items and not even cold. Room service was minimal and they did not replace makeup wipes and then also took the makeup washcloth too before the end of the stay. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and low to the ground which could be a problem for some. My room was near a maintenance room so I continually heard some sort of vent or other mechanical item cycling throughout the night. Not loud enough to complain but loud enough to be a bother. Overall the location (and restaurants in the hotel) were about the only redeeming factors for this place that seems to be trading location and aesthetic for quality service and comfort.

The Good: The service here was phenomenal. We had a couple of disputes at checkout, but the staff resolved them quickly and even followed up afterward. I stayed on the top floor in what was easily their best room in the building with the best view of ladybird lake and bat bridge. The pool area was also a highlight; it doesn't look like much from the outside or from above (it actually looks kind of gross), but it's not, and spending a few hours there was relaxing despite the crowd. Plus, there's a pool bar and you can drink in/by the pool. The location is great- you can get wherever you need to go by walking, scooter, and they have in and out valet if you rent a car (recommend if you plan to explore further parts of the city or outside). The Bad: It was one of my least restful vacations. I absolutely hated the minimalist room design. The beds are on the floor, there are only three small drawers, and there are no hangers—meaning you (and whoever you're staying with) are basically living out of your suitcases with a chair and small ottoman. Because I was on the top floor (or maybe it's just an old building), I was woken up every morning by the grinding sound of the elevator, even though my room was far down the hall. It's also one of the more expensive places to stay. The Weird: To watch TV, you have to log into your own streaming services. They do make it easy to wipe your data (and it clears automatically at checkout), but it still felt strange. I guess it fits the "Keep Austin Weird" slogan! Verdict: Is it a nice place? Truly, it is. But if I ever return to Austin, I’ll likely stay somewhere else.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-day staycation. Arlo Gray provided an exceptional experience, and their sourdough was particularly outstanding. The pool was a gem, he service was excellent, and the location offered convenient access to various dining and entertainment options.

As many have said, great staff, great location. Seriously, fantastic. But, the photos were definitely misleading making it seem nicer than it is. The lobby looks nothing like the photos. At some point, someone took the liberty of redecorating with a bunch of thrift store furniture and chotchkes trying to make it look “Austin” but missing the mark. Not a great first impression. Room was fine, clean, but it smelled old and stuffy. The original building was built in 1965, so it smells like a home from 1965. Frankly, it took away from the overall stay and made the hotel seem very tired - but I’m not sure what they can do about it. It is just age. I woke up and was immediately hit by the smell. I wouid recommend this place for a group in Austin for a bachelor or bachelorette party or quick overnight, but not for anything else.
