The patio stretches out onto the street, and on warm evenings it becomes the main draw, letting patrons sip drinks while the city hums behind them. The room is dominated by gay men, a blend of long‑time regulars who know the bartender’s name and out‑of‑town visitors looking for a quick, unapologetic night out. Weekdays the doors open at 4 p.m.; weekends they swing open two hours earlier, at 2 p.m., with last call at 2 a.m. Prices sit in the mid‑range bracket for downtown Austin. When Saturday rolls around the whole 4th Street block of gay bars fills up, and people drift from one venue to the next, making Oilcan Harry’s a natural checkpoint on the nightly crawl.
