What is there to even say about this place that hasn’t already been said. Stuck in a pocket of time with former heavyweights like Tao, Sushi Samba and SoHo House the surf lodge is if anything authentic in its attempt to extract as much money as possible from the hordes of IG influencers, nepo babies and 30 something’s still clinging to their glory days. On one hand the food and restaurant experiance was genuinely decent, save the slightly excessive pricing. We got the steak, chicken, lobster pasta and the burrata salad which we weren’t disappointed with. On the other hand it’s literally a old motel that has convinced people to pay over 700 dollars for entry to a glorified margaritaville where d-list dj’s play house music and chicken tenders cost 150$. To hate on it is to give it attention which is to legitimize it. To conclude I respect surf lodge for the genius marketing and social engineering behind the project. Will I be back, probably…

Memorial Day Weekend at The Surf Lodge was one of the most disappointing and uncomfortable experiences I've had in Montauk. What started as a simple question regarding the guest list somehow escalated into me being removed from the venue despite not being intoxicated, belligerent, disruptive, or causing any issues whatsoever. I remained calm and respectful, yet I was treated as though I had done something wrong. What made the situation even worse was being left outside alone in the cold rain for no apparent reason. As a woman, being put in that position made me feel incredibly unsafe and uncomfortable. No guest should be made to feel abandoned or vulnerable simply for asking a question. After sharing my experience, I was surprised to discover that many reviews describe similar issues involving rude staff, aggressive security, poor treatment of guests, and an overall culture of arrogance and exclusivity. Multiple online reviews mention hostile interactions with hosts, security personnel, and management, while others describe being denied entry or treated disrespectfully without explanation. (Tripadvisor) The venue may have the reputation of being a Montauk hotspot, but a beautiful location doesn't excuse poor treatment of guests. Customer service, professionalism, and basic respect should never be optional. Unfortunately, my experience lived up to the negative reputation that so many others have written about. I left feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and genuinely unsafe. I won't be returning, and I would encourage others to think carefully before spending their time and money here. At this point, I don't expect this review to change anything. Judging by the countless similar experiences shared by other guests over the years, this seems to be part of the culture rather than an isolated incident. Unfortunately, places that continue to prioritize exclusivity over basic respect rarely have any incentive to change. My review may not make a difference, but if it helps even one woman know what she might encounter before spending hundreds of dollars here, then it's worth writing. No one should have to worry about being dismissed, humiliated, or left standing alone outside in the cold and rain after simply asking a reasonable question as a result of egotistical and unfit doormen. Women deserve to feel safe, respected, and treated with dignity, regardless of who they are or whether they're on a guest list.
