Melt è il festival di arti e cultura queer del Brisbane Powerhouse. È iniziato all'interno del Powerhouse a New Farm a metà degli anni 2010 e da allora si è diffuso in tutta la città. Il programma 2026 elenca oltre 100 eventi in più di 70 sedi, tra cui Fortitude Valley, Fish Lane, Howard Smith Wharves, Queen's Wharf e la State Library. Time Out lo definisce il più grande festival di arti queer di Brisbane.
Il pezzo forte è la River Pride Parade, una flottiglia di barche decorate che salpa da West End fino al Powerhouse. Nel 2026 si sposta in una fascia oraria serale il sabato 24 ottobre. Per la prima volta cade lo stesso giorno della parata, della marcia e del Fair Day di Brisbane Pride. Segue una festa di apertura gratuita al Powerhouse. Gli altri spettacoli sono a pagamento uno per uno tramite il Powerhouse.
Il festival 2026 si svolge dal 21 ottobre all'8 novembre. La line-up include Courtney Barnett, Melanie C e Show Me Love, un nuovo spettacolo immersivo di Circa. L'anatra di gomma alta 15 metri di Florentijn Hofman è stata ridipinta di rosa e si unirà alla parata prima di ormeggiare vicino al Powerhouse. C'è anche Mr First Nation, un nuovo concorso di drag king per artisti delle Prime Nazioni. Le date del 2027 non erano ancora state annunciate al momento della nostra verifica.
