Wildlife Retreat at Taronga

I honestly think that if I won the lottery, I'd spend the rest of my days here! The room was fantastic and I could have happily sat by the window all day watching the kangaroos hopping past all day. You can even leave your windows slightly ajar at night and wake up to the sounds of all the animals coming to life in the morning it makes the experience even more special. The food in the restaurant was brilliant and all the staff, zoo keepers and volunteers were just as wonderful. There was a wide variety of animals, all of which looked healthy, happy and exceptionally well cared for. We already miss Picnic the wallaby and Echo the superb lyrebird mimicking the hotel’s evacuation message is something you have to hear to believe! I couldn't recommend this place more highly. (Plus… If you book a night in the zoo’s hotel you get two days passes to the zoo. Which made it great value for money and a no brainier.)

Amazing accommodation and location, food excellent although on the pricey side and service within the restaurant was a little hit and miss, empty glasses for some time on multiple occasions and cleaning of the table and/or removal of dirty plates was slow and clunky, views from the restaurant for dinner and breakfast were stunning! Highly recommend a stay here!

Andrew the sanctuary guide along with each and every smiley staff member makes your stay such a pleasure. Best kept secret AND they all love their job.

Fantastic experience my only criticism was breakfast could be better. There is no egg choice service and also to mirror the theme of the restaurant at night they could incorporate some Australian native and other Aussie made produce in the food selection at breakfast service also by better interpretation of what produce was and where it’s from in Australia eg hunter valley cheese etc The staff at breakfast were a bit vacant and could be more genuine and happy but from my observation the management of Sunday breakfast staff I felt she wasn’t the best manager for the staff to incorporate that service. The receptionist staff are exceptional and the tour guides always incredible! Thankyou for the stay !

I loved the views and ambience, wonderful staff and services. Don’t think about booking it….book it! Sadly they don’t listen to client requests, I simply asked well in advance for a firm pillow and specifically a room overlooking the koalas, instead I got the box-standard welcome email. Such a pity, 2 simple requests and both ignored.

What a wonderful unique experience! The staff were exceptional, our room was perfect for my family and we had a super active koala outside our window. The resort itself is beautifully designed in every detail and the views back to the city are lovely. Honestly it’s seems well worth the money since breakfast, zoo tickets and several private zoo tours are included. Highlight of our trip to Australia.

Liz, the supervisor, was especially outstanding. She went the extra mile to pick us up last minute at the Wharf. She handled our check-in, then handled our bags. She was everywhere! She did the job of 3 people and always had a smile on her face. Above and beyond, she didn’t say no or wait for others to help us. She handled it herself and we very much appreciated her. Rooms were amazing, restaurant was incredible, we will be back!

A wonderful experience. Great service, and food. Staff are amazing. Being able to step outside and wander around the zoo at anytime is so relaxing. Visit could not have been better.
