We have always visited one or more of the LGBTQIA+ bars when we’re visiting a city and we could not have been happier with our visit to The Stonewall. Easy to find, exceptional happy hour and a staff that immediately makes you feel welcome. If you’re as lucky as we were, Josh will wait on you and aside from the amazing service, Josh knows this city and is an absolute joy to engage and chat with. When you’re in Sydney The Stonewall is an absolute blast and must visit!!
Security at the door is EXTREMELY RUDE. I got in the bar and before I could even order security grabbed me and asked me how much I have had to drink I said two drinks and they “allowed” me in. I’m sorry, if I was a problem or anyone is a problem the bartenders should notice and not serve me, not a security guard asking everyone who enters how much they have drank that night before I even say a word. How embarrassing and way to set the tone for the experience. Then I order a drink and the bartender told me I had to order over on the other side which was literally two steps away, fine. After I ordered that sitting at the bar they never came back to me once someone snatched my empty glass away. Tried to get their attention a few times but they obviously ignored me because I was sitting at the bar. Worst gay bar experience ever ! Won’t be back.
Totally do not go here if you want your night destroyed the security staff on the door are so rude and full of their own attitude worse than police integration the female security guard is terrible full of her own importance and attitude Definitely do not visit here if you looking for friendly fun gay friendly experience better walk across the road and go the Oxford they also have strict control but at least security staff are friendly and operate in a professional manner
Seemed friendlier and cheaper than the Oxford (which is not how it used to be) so can be a destination if you're after that sort of thing.
We had a fantastic time here during happy hour - great vibes, lovely staff and super cheap drinks. Drag entertainment was an added bonus
The police on the door.! At 56 years old am not used to being denied entry because I’ve had 4 drinks in 6 hours…no wonder Oxford Street is finished!
I have been coming for years and have always had a great night. Tuesday was karaoke night and surprisingly the talent was really good with only a couple that should never have got on the stage. The bar staff can be a little rude sometimes but then so can the clientele to them. The music is fab and the atmosphere is fun. You have to wear enclosed shoes to get in. Oxford street would not be the same without Stonewall.
I was racially discriminated by a security guard and he told me he did not like me. When I approached other guards for assistance they didn’t want to hear about it and the first guard then ejected me from the venue. I was shocked that someone can be kicked out based solely on their accent and skin colour. They thought I was an easy victim because I did not look like a local and was on my own. After the incident, I tried to work formally with the management but they denied any racist behaviour at the venue by simply claiming that they are inclusive. They clearly don’t care. It does not matter what their website says, I felt unsafe and vulnerable because of my skin colour and did not find the venue inclusive. The more I talk to friends about it, the more I hear similar stories about discriminatory behaviour at the venue. Such a shame that these abhorrent experiences are still happening in a city like Sydney. I’d rather go to other welcome places like Palms, Columbians and many other on the street.
The marshall’s are rude and manager does nothing which is so upsetting will never go here again neither will my friends.
Was enjoying a relaxed evening catchup with some long time friends who I have not seen in a few years. We were seated at a table quietly minding our own business. I went outside for a vape and when I tried to re enter the rude security said no I cannot and that I should leave and take my female friend who was still inside with me. When asked why I was being refused entry I received no answer. Shame on you stonewall for employing under educated rent a cops with no idea how to provide customer service and have no idea what they are doing. Disgusting. Went to another venue down the road and had a much better time. Avoid this dump at all cost and don't waste your time.
