I find 'The Australian' refreshing. When I visit the Rocks (normally to visit the markets for Xmas/ bday presents or to catch up with visitors) I will drop in for lunch. Often I will have my cattle dog with me (not ideal but personal reasons dictate it), this is one of the rare places that I don't feel I need to apologise to do so. There is even an older gentleman that greets us and has treats ready to go. The service is very friendly; the food is very nice - not pretentious, not small, but satisfyingly yummy; the recent glass of wine I had was very more-ish; the location is handy to markets, shops and history; the ambiance is content - no one is a trying wannabe and everyone can actually hear each other. I didn't rate the rooms as I haven't been in the rooms but I can say the toilet stalls aren't tiny cubicles, and the bar area is long without a wait. Worth a visit!!
The pub is ok enough. I had 4 pints from 7.00pm to 9:30pm then was cut off from bar staff? Inexperienced people, bad service.
An incredible job by Ellie (who I spoke to) and the team who kept the drinks flowing and food coming to a packed house for the Australia v Paraguay World Cup game. Zero complaints and delays at the bar. Shame the football wasn’t this good ⚽️
Always a great pub to visit. The pizzas are excellent.
(06/06/26)To the young female staff member serving drinks at the counter on a weekend evening, I hope you pay more attention to how you treat customers, as your behaviour could easily lead people to suspect racial discrimination. I am a person of colour. I was standing in line to order a pizza. After the group in front of me had finished ordering, I greeted you with, "How are you?" when it was my turn. Instead of responding, she immediately started wiping a table. Although I was not speaking quietly, I assumed she was busy and waited patiently. When she finished cleaning the table, I spoke again in a louder voice and said, "How are you? Can I..." At that moment, however, she greeted a white man standing next to me. She then chatted and laughed with him while pouring him a beer. Before I even had a chance to speak, she proceeded to take the order of another white man. At the time, I was holding a menu and standing directly in front of the counter, so it was obvious to everyone around that I had been waiting and that my turn had been skipped. Another white customer nearby even seemed to notice what was happening and kept glancing at me. In the end, after continuing to ignore me, she asked the man, "How can I help you?" At that point, he told her, "This lady was here first. She's been waiting for quite a while." Only then did you look at me blankly. You did not even offer a greeting or an apology. From the moment I entered the store, all I did was quietly wait in line with a menu in my hand for my turn. I never expected to be treated with such disrespect. Whether intentional or not, your actions made me feel ignored and singled out because of my race. I hope you reflect on this incident and treat all customers with the same level of respect and courtesy in the future. Please be more mindful of your behaviour.
Love this place! We’ve been coming every Friday for two years after our football match. Special thanks to Silvi for always been so great!
I normally dont give bad reviews. But this one is terrible!!! I picked up a pizza tonight and this was the condition when I opened the box at home. The pizza had completely slid to one side and much of the cheese and toppings had come off. I've attached a photo taken immediately after opening the box, it is not edible unfortunately, and I am very disaoppointed!!!
