新宿二丁目ゲイバー「がいずば。」

OK, the website for the bar refers to its name as Izuba, but if you look at other channels, it's also been called Gaizuba and Guyzuba because I noticed the mama-san refers to him/herself as Guy on Instagram. I'm not surprised he's a part-time actor because his ingratiating manner really makes this place. In fact, after sampling quite a few bars in Shinjuku Ni Chome, my husband and I agreed this is the friendliest gay bar in the 'hood. That's actually saying something because there are over 400 gay bars in Shinjuku Ni Chome. We've patronized several of them and been rejected by a few for not being "members" who speak Japanese. But not here. Guy welcomes anyone to his bar. He even says on his website: "Gay bar where women and beginners are OK." Indeed that was true when we saw Guy regale a trio of female regulars when we arrived. We sat next to a couple who turned out to be on a first date as we struggled with Google Translate. We were primarily served by Shin, one of Guy's longtime bartenders. Gratefully he spoke a little English, so he kept us entertained while we imbibed our ¥800 Tequila Sunrises. Even though we just had sushi for dinner, we were having such a good time we went for the ¥1,300 Three Appetizer Plate. It consisted of nabemono (hot pot), goma-ae (spinach), and satsumaimo (sweet potatoes). Great comfort food in the ideal Showa-era setting. If we were still in Tokyo, we'd go back in a heartbeat. DRINKS / FOOD - 5 stars...potent drinks and surprisingly comfy comfort food liberally ladled AMBIANCE - 5 stars...vintage vibe in a small space SERVICE - 5 stars...Guy and Shin were the best TOTAL - 5 stars...yep, the friendliest gay bar in Shinjuku Ni Chome - right up there with Aka-chan in Shimbashi

A gay bar in the so-called Ni-chome area It attracts both beginners and hardcore drinkers. The owner is quite strict about service, so you can expect Ni-chome style hospitality! If you're looking to meet someone, go without any pretense and you're sure to have a good time.

It's fun and affordable even for moms to come, and the curry 🍛 is delicious (๑´ڡ`๑)

For my first time in Shinjuku Ni-chome, I visited Gaizuba! I had a wonderful time with the lovely staff and other customers! The prices were as advertised and very reasonable, and I was so happy to receive such a generous and elaborately prepared appetizer! I will definitely go again!

The first time, they served stewed lotus root, spicy salad, and candied sweet potato. The second time, they served chicken bang bang chicken style, koya tofu, and simmered burdock. They were so filling! It's amazing that all of this is included in the 1,300 yen cover charge... You can also smoke and eat the snacks on the counter. For three people, the bill came to about 2,300 yen per person. We ended up staying for about three hours and left just before 11pm! They also recommended a place called Kyushu Otoko Shinjuku 2-chome, so I'll go there next time! I hope to meet the proprietress (guy) next time.

Great atmosphere! We were visiting from Chicago and stopped for a drink. We ended up staying a long time and singing their awesome music and eating excellent (and free) food. Highly recommended!

We had an awesome time hanging out at this bar in Shinjuku Nichome. Come prepared to chat with the bartender a bit, as most of the seats in this small space are right at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and welcoming, and the other customers were too.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, even to people with disabilities. The food was delicious, so it was a great place to visit even for those who aren't LGBTQ. Wheelchair users should make an appointment in advance, and if you do, they'll set up terrace seating outside the restaurant.
