A magnificent townhouse in an authentic part of Ghent's city center. Splendid garden. A warm welcome from Jan and Marc. Very comfortable rooms. Exquisite breakfast. Exceptional decor reflecting the owners' personality.

Absolutely stunning! Beautiful building and furnishings, loved the atmosphere and hosts Jan & Marc were very welcoming, only stayed for 1 night but would loved to have stayed longer. Breakfast was my favourite, in a stunning room and able to read books about the history of the hotel! Loved it!

Clean rooms and a beautiful location.

My husband and I stayed at the Verhaegen at the beginning of December for 4 nights and absolutely loved our stay. The Verhaegen is very well located, just a short walk to the tram for central station and a short walk into the centre of town. The property itself and gardens are absolutely beautiful, as was our room, we couldn’t have been more thrilled with our cosy room choice. The attention to detail in this place is simply second to none, from the beautiful decor, lighting and furnishings. A highlight was having a candle lit breakfast in the stunning dining room, the linens, tablewear, it was truly special. It was a real pleasure to stay in this beautiful 17th century property in the heart of Ghent and learn about it’s history, it really felt like a meaningful and authentic experience. This place is a haven of peace and tranquility, not far from a historic center that is often crowded. The accommodation is particularly cozy, with tastefully chosen decor, a spacious and comfortable room opening onto a beautifully maintained garden. The breakfast served in an amazing lounge lives up to all expectations.

My husband, his parents and I stayed here last night in two of their suites and it was incredible! The building was stunning and every room, the breakfast room and even the hallways were decorated so well with countless beautiful details. The interior was truly amazing with art pieces that look like they are from a museum. The service was great too, the owners were welcoming and friendly. Some other details I want to mention are the great water pressure in the bathroom, great espresso machines in our rooms and a beautiful well kept garden that looks like it belongs to a castle! If you want to experience feeling like royalty you should add the breakfast. Thank you so much for making our time so memorable, we truly enjoyed it.

The result is this review: Dear community and followers , let me take you through it... The building is impressive, but the staff is awful. In the end, we were yelled at (I'm not kidding!!!) And why? Because you didn't drink the (poor quality and overpriced wine, €40-65) from the minibar... but your own. A suite... booked for more than €1,400 for three nights (include damage door in bathroom and fraggle stairs ) We also had a kitchen... on a day when the temperature was over 32 degrees... So we ate in the garden in the evening... (first day upon arrival... Original quote: "The important thing is that you feel comfortable... This is a private garden... You can do whatever you want. You have a kitchen... etc. etc.") When we had finished our home-cooked meal, we cleared the table... We went upstairs for a moment and came back... The wine we had bought ourselves was suddenly gone. When we asked one of the owners about it in surprise, he simply said it had been thrown away, explaining that it was his house and that you wouldn't take your own food with you to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Right... sure. 1. It's not a restaurant. It is and remains a garden where you can spend time. 2. It is our decision what we want to drink and what we don't (especially if it doesn't suit our taste). 3. If you don't want people to drink their own wine in the garden in the evening (mind you, it's a garden, not a restaurant, etc.), then you can politely point this out. No problem. (His response was very aggressive and extremely loud, "I don't have to. Furthermore, he followed up with more loud, confused arguments on his part.") 4. If it's your own house and you want it to stay that way, with all your rules and concepts, then you shouldn't rent it out. Because the concept doesn't work. We're not in prison. It's simple. What's next? That you're not allowed to drink your own water from the supermarket in your room because you have to drink the expensive water from the minibar? Getting loud, threatening and throwing away property that you paid for yourself when you just go into your room for three minutes? It's not enough to pay €1,400 for three nights and an overpriced, modest breakfast for €25 per person per day (anyone who cooks themselves knows what I mean... And I mean it... I would praise it if it were praiseworthy). We have travelled extensively throughout our lives, but we have never experienced anything so unprofessional. As long as you follow the owner's concept and they see your money, everything is fine. However, as soon as you deviate from this, the owners become suspicious. Very strange owners. Something about the concept just doesn't add up, both from a human and psychological point of view. What bothered on top and irritated us the most was that it smelled like weed in the lobby the entire time. We wanted to have a nice stay in Ghent, but in the end we didn't feel safe and felt very uncomfortable and threatened (it's worth reading the negative reviews).

The B&B is a mansion from the 18th century. The owners of the building preserved the original atmosphere as it was in that period and decorated it with all the details in mind. Since they are interior designers themselves, this hotel emerged as a work of art. We felt very special during our stay here. The quality of the breakfast and the table setting were magnificent. The room was very nice. The owners Jan&Marc are very kind people. A hotel where you will experience the same atmosphere as the texture of the city of Ghent.

It was a great experience! The atmosphere was astonishing and the rooms had a breathtaking aesthetic. We had also a booklet of the building history which was a beautiful gesture. Thank you !

Very beautiful B&B in a setting that exudes historicity. We received a tour of the historic building from one of the hosts, something we thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, it is an excellent place. What did I like less? The fact that our room (the Paola Suite) only has a bathtub and no shower. The bath is, most likely for aesthetic reasons, not designed to be used as a shower. You have to sit in the bath and hold the shower head by hand to get anything that even remotely resembles taking a shower. In my opinion, there is something wrong with the price-quality ratio of the breakfast. While the quality may be excellent, the price (in this case €38.50/pp) was not proportionate.

B&B The Verhaegen is a perfect blend of history and elegance! You can feel the traces of the past in every detail, this special hotel blends historical texture with modern comfort. Its magnificent architecture, stylish decor, and spotlessly clean rooms make you feel as if you've stepped back in time.
