⭐☆☆☆☆ 1/5 stars Our three-night, four-day stay at the A&O Hostel Dortmund was unfortunately a complete disappointment and definitely not what we've come to expect from the A&O chain. Upon arrival, the first room was in an absolutely unacceptable condition. The bed, the shower, and the entire floor were covered in hair. There were also exposed cables lying around. Since we were traveling with a child under two years old and had booked a family room, this was not only unhygienic but also a significant safety hazard. After complaining, we were offered a second room. Unfortunately, this room was also far from clean. The walls were damp, there was hair everywhere again, and the floor was filthy. We were then given a third room. The rooms got progressively smaller, but the cleanliness was no better. The shower cubicle was damaged and also covered in limescale and dirt. Overall, the bathroom gave a neglected and unhygienic impression. What was particularly disappointing was that, despite multiple complaints and repeated requests, no proper cleaning took place during our entire three-night, four-day stay. The issues raised were clearly not taken seriously and were not addressed. We have stayed at other A&O Hostels several times before and had significantly better experiences. This stay was all the more disappointing. Cleanliness, the condition of the rooms, and the service were at a level we have never experienced before. In our opinion, this location is not recommended for families with young children. We will definitely not be returning to the A&O Hostel Dortmund.

had a really nice and chill stay here! checked in at midnight with ease, rooms were relatively clean and very spacious compared to other hostels and a helpful staff! Plus you get to store your luggage as well!

Positive: The reception staff were very friendly throughout our stay and offered helpful tips. The location is excellent. You get exactly the quality you pay for at this low price. Therefore, you shouldn't expect too much. I think it's ideal for one night. I can also easily imagine a longer stay with a group of friends in a private room. Negative: People take beds other than the ones assigned to them. This isn't recorded in the system, even though it leads to a chain reaction. The rest of us (who arrived independently and didn't know each other) all arrived one after the other, and then each of us took a different bed and had to go downstairs to sort it out. In the end, everyone was able to sleep, but it was still inconvenient. The reception staff already knew why I was queuing again 5 minutes after checking in, without me having to say anything. This is due to the guests themselves and less to a&o's fault. However, it would be good to be able to record this in the system. Then I wouldn't be assigned an occupied bed. The cleaning staff comes to the room before 10 a.m. and makes the beds. I was lucky that I had already packed and tidied up before breakfast. Those 10 minutes before 10 a.m. could have been waited. I checked out promptly 5 minutes before 10 a.m. The hallways didn't smell very nice. Important: You should bring your own lock for the in-room safe. You can also buy one on-site from a machine for 7 euros.

I had a double room there, the room was clean, unfortunately the beds were twins, but that was okay 👍 The service was quite friendly, even late at night. Otherwise, nothing fancy, and for a reasonable price, everything was great 😊
