We didn’t book, but they luckily had space for a walk in. Was the last day of our trip and we splashed out. It was well worth the price, the portion sizes are GREAT. They are not stingy with the meat, the food is the best seasoning we’ve had in Iceland, the service was warm and friendly. Raul (sp?) all the best with your sommelier qualification! The drinks were good too, also huge cocktails. Overall great service, vibes, food. We were rolling out of the restaurant when we left.
Cosy place, very good food, delicate flavors. Friendly staff, attentive service. We loved all the dishes, especially the prawn starter(best we have in Iceland so far) and the broiled Arctic Char. Generous portions.
From walking in, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. It's a small place so tables are at a premium. I was happy sitting at one of the food bars though, so no problem there. The service was unmatched throughout the experience. Just two waiters working the whole floor but somehow making it look easy. Always friendly, attentive, accommodating and helpful. I chose the Braised Arctic Char for my main course paired with a glass of Louis Latour Bourgogne Chardonnay. The char was the star, and quite rightly so. Cooked with remarkable restraint, it was tender without being fragile, richly flavoured without becoming heavy, and possessed that almost buttery texture that makes perfectly handled fish so difficult to beat. The braising had coaxed an extraordinary depth from the char while somehow preserving its delicate character. Beneath it lay a deceptively simple bed of sautéed spinach, carrot and courgette. Yet simplicity here was anything but an afterthought. The vegetables retained just enough texture to provide contrast, while their gentle sweetness and earthy notes created a beautifully balanced foundation for the richness of the fish. Each component seemed to know exactly why it was on the plate. Then came the house skyr herb dressing — cool, tangy and wonderfully fresh. Its slight acidity cut through the richness of the char with precision, while the herbs brought a bright freshness to the dish. It was the kind of sauce that doesn't announce itself; it simply makes everything around it taste better. And finally, the pomegranate. Those jewel-like seeds weren't merely decorative. Their sharp, sweet acidity and little bursts of texture provided the perfect punctuation mark, lifting the entire dish and keeping every mouthful interesting. One of the best dishes I have eaten in a very long time, and a plate I would happily order again without changing a single thing. I finished off with the chocolate mousse dessert. Again, exquisite. Every spoonful offered something different — silky mousse, crunchy crumble, rich caramel, the occasional crystalline burst of salt — while somehow remaining completely harmonious. If I could give six stars, I would.
The Polish waiter was great, the food was also delicious, especially the goulash and the salmon salad (starters).
Restaurant with good dishes, fewer options for vegetarians. Attentive service. Moderate prices. In the city center.
