However, same-sex partnerships and marriage remain unrecognized in law, and a 2005 constitutional amendment explicitly defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Adoption by same-sex couples is not permitted. Anti-discrimination protections in employment exist under EU-mandated law but are inconsistently enforced.
