Surrey Quays (Russia Dock)

I had a very relaxing walk in the woods listening to the birds. That was what I needed and I am happy now. Walked through to the pier and got a ferry to Canary Wharf.

It's a nice local nature area with good footpaths. A bit of countryside in the middle of the Docklands.

One of the hidden gems of south london. Lovely park, bigger than you think. Great little walks and quiet.

Crime in the woodland can be a problem, I think it has calmed down a bit recently but it was not uncommon to have muggings in the area.

Along with Stave Hill Ecology Park Russia Dock Woodland divides the Rotherhithe peninsula. I'm not sure where the boundary between the two sits but it doesn't really matter. The great thing is that you can stroll amongst nature all the way from Greenland Dock to Rotherhithe Pier. This is the site of the old Surrey Commercial Docks & you can still see the granite blocks lining the side of the canal plus some iron mooring blocks. There are several ponds , the most notable being Globe Pond. Apart from woodland & scrub there is a large open grass area with seating. Really valuable resource for all those living nearby. I walked through on a sunny weekday morning & enjoyed the bird song & peaceful surroundings before crossing the river from Rotherhithe Pier & landing at Canary Wharf.
