Auckland has a small number of gay saunas operating in the inner city, with venues in and around the K Road area. The scene is modest in scale — New Zealand's total population of 5 million limits the infrastructure that any city here can sustain — but the venues that do operate are functional and consistently run.

What is available

Auckland's gay saunas follow the standard format: wet and dry areas, private rooms or cabins, social spaces, and lockers. Facilities are not lavish but are maintained to a reasonable standard. The clientele is primarily local, with visitor numbers increasing during Pride Auckland in late February or early March.

Cost

Auckland saunas are priced in line with the city's general cost level, which is high. New Zealand has become an expensive travel destination and the sauna prices reflect this. Expect to pay more than you would for equivalent venues in Australia.

Practical notes

Check current operating hours and pricing before visiting. The scene is small enough that changes — new venues, closures, changed hours — are significant. Standard sauna protocol applies throughout.
