The short version: Strasbourg has two gay bars, Canapé Queer and Golden Gate, both in the old town. Everything else is event-based: drag nights, bear apéros and parties held in mainstream bars and clubs. There is no gay district and no gay nightclub open every weekend. Plan around the bars and check the week's queer agenda.
Canapé Queer Bar
Canapé Queer (20 rue des Couples, Grande Île) is Strasbourg's main LGBTQ+ bar. It is small and sociable, with a mixed queer crowd of students and locals, and more conversation than dancing. Google lists it from early evening Monday to Saturday, until 01:30 early in the week and until 04:00 from Thursday to Saturday. It is closed on Sunday. The Apéro Bears group meets there on the first Tuesday of the month, and drag and themed nights are posted on its Instagram, @canapequeerstrasbourg. Google rates it 4.6 from about 345 reviews.
Golden Gate Bar
Golden Gate (63 rue du Fossé-des-Tanneurs) sits on the western side of the Grande Île between Place Kléber and Petite France. Gay guides have listed it since around 1999. It serves food and drinks from 11:30, so by day it is a café-bar, and in the evening it has an older, mostly male crowd. Google lists it from Tuesday to Saturday, until midnight on Tuesday and 01:30 from Wednesday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. Rated 4.3 from about 520 reviews.
Queer nights in other venues
A lot of Strasbourg's queer nightlife happens as one-off or monthly events in mainstream places:
- Studio Saglio (16 rue Saglio), an electronic club open on Friday and Saturday nights, hosted La Nuit des FestiGays, the Pride closing party, on 20 June 2026.
- Le Petit Tigre (rue du Faubourg-National) has hosted drag karaoke and drag shows, and Les Savons d'Hélène has hosted drag viewing nights.
- The bear group Grog'Nounours runs apéros at the Café Grognon on avenue Léon Dacheux.
- La Station, the LGBTI+ centre, runs evening socials such as game nights and themed cafés.
- Z Bar (9 rue de la Course), a men's bar with naturist nights, is listed as permanently closed on Google.
- So Crazy and Spyl Bar Club have closed.
- Le Gayot and L'Alchimiste are mainstream bars. Le Gayot is named after Place du Marché-Gayot.
- Le FAT (Fat Black Pussycat, rue Klein) is a rock and concert bar; we found no regular queer nights there.
The local agenda queerbourg.fr collects these, and our events page imports it.
Gay-friendly, not gay
Le Schluch (3 rue de l'Outre) is a classic old-town beer bar a few minutes from Canapé Queer. It is not a gay bar, but misterb&b lists it as LGBT-friendly and it works as a quiet first or last drink.
Closed or not gay
Practical tips
Weeknights are quiet, so Thursday to Saturday is the time to go out. Canapé Queer and Golden Gate are about ten minutes' walk apart, and the saunas and L'Antr'acte are covered in our sauna guide. For the June Marche des Visibilités, see the Pride page.
