The Hair Journey

The Hair Journey Ballet is an original contemporary production created by Princess Howell Johnson and produced by the Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet. It celebrates Black culture, identity, and self-love through the journey of a young girl named Zuri learning to embrace her natural hair. Zuri wants her hair straightened, but after a rainstorm turns her straightened hair back into an afro, she embarks on a dreamlike adventure through the Weave Kingdom and the Land of Locs and Fros before returning home to self-acceptance. Core Messages: Explores themes of childhood patience, self-identity, and the beauty of natural Black hair.
