The bartender created such a hostile environment and was combative with everything I said, and my friend had the same experience later in the night. I’m reading the other reviews and see that it is a common occurrence. I unfortunately will not be going to this bar until that rude bartender is gone.
Bartender was completely rude to friend asking for an additional drink and told us to kill our selves and then proceeded to “kick us out of the bar”
I've visited this bar a few times in the past and generally had a good time. However, my experience tonight was completely different. My two friends and I stopped by for one last drink on a Saturday night at 3:15am. While the bar is typically opened until 4am, we were immediately met with attitude, side-eye, and a rude comment from the bartender about them closing early. The bartender allowed me to order, but when I opted to pay cash rather than add the tip on my card, his demeanor shifted to outright hostility. When I handed him a 20$ bill to break it, rather than acting with any shred of professionalism, he snatched the bill from my hand, threw it into his tip bucket, and walked away - completely abandoning the bar area. I returned to the bar 60 seconds later to ask if I had done something to offend him and requested my 20$ back. This wasn't about the money, but about the fact that his behavior was entirely uncalled for and completely unacceptable. I will not be returning to Happyfun Hideaway
My friends and I were looking for some fun queer friendly bars to go to celebrate the beginning of pride month, and doing some research I came upon this bar. It looked fun, had good reviews, and seemed like a nice calm start to the night. My friend group is a mixed queer / straight group. I would say that all of us could be considered straight passing? But nonetheless all of us are strong allies and enjoy openly queer spaces. Unfortunately we had a really unpleasant experience. First off, I waited at the bar for a drink for a while, the bartender obviously knowing I was there. Instead of politely telling me it will be a second, they just stared at me for a while and ignored me. Until maybe 10 minutes later they rudely asked me what I wanted to drink. I asked for two well shots and a vodka Redbull, received the two tiniest shots you have ever seen in your life and a vodka Cran that just tasted like glorified cranberry juice. And I got charged $38 dollars for it. On the up side, I went to a different bartender after and he compensated me, but that was not all that happened. My other friend went to the same bartender (that overcharged me) and also ordered drinks, while she was not overcharged, the bartender pointed to our other friend while making her drinks and said "eww a straight man" in reference to him. We appreciate queer spaces because it is a space we are all supposed to feel comfortable being ourselves in and having fun without being worried about being discriminated against by other people. And you can not always tell if someone is queer by looking at them. I understand wanting to protect queer spaces, and as an openly genderfluid person I share that sentiment. But it is very hurtful when we are felt unwelcome by the staff for not having an entire group of openly queer presenting people. Pushing away allies and "straight passing" queer people is harmful to the community and goes against Pride and the equality we all wish to have. I hope that my review finds someone willing to listen, and that some change can be made. To conclude my review, if you are a group of very obviously queer people, I think this is a safe space for you, and will be fun. But it is certainly not a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
