Hotel Phillips Kansas City, Curio Collection by Hilton

The hotel is gorgeous and the rooms clean. However, the front desk staff were terribly rude and the speakeasy in the basement featured a display case in which there were photographs of naked men with erections and phallic pottery. Pornography isn’t exactly the vibe I would expect from a classy establishment. We were shocked.

This is a sleepy little hotel, great to stay for a night. It is in a historic building and the art deco design is moody and dark, but comfortable. I liked the subway tiles in shower and black hexagon on the floor. We played shuffleboard on 2nd floor. Parking is $45 a night and the valet guys are totally friendly and helpful. Front desk nice. No fridge in room, or microwave. Bed pretty good, plenty of pillows, TV a little tricky on LivevTv, but all and all a quiet and enjoyable stay.

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the valet staff was easily the highlight of my stay—friendly, professional, and consistently helpful. Unfortunately, the condition of my room was disappointing. There were several cleanliness issues in the bathroom, which I reported to the front desk on two separate occasions. I was assured the concerns would be addressed, but housekeeping’s solution appeared to be making the bed and replacing the towels while leaving the issues I reported untouched. I expected a much higher standard from a Curio Collection by Hilton property. After reading other reviews, it seems these cleanliness concerns are not new. I wish I had looked more closely before booking. While the building is beautiful, I would not stay here again based on my experience.

It takes a lot for me to write a review or take the time to good or bad. But this Hotel and the staff definitely deserves this. First I went in a week before my reservation, because I wanted to decorate the room to surprise my wife as we just got married and I wanted to make the night a little more special. I spoke to the front desk Mgr Edmund Vaughn, he put notes in my reservation that I wanted to do this and they would do everything possible to help me get this done. The morning of my reservation, I called and spoke to Fowzia she said they didn't have any rooms ready, but took my number and would call me as soon as a room was ready. I decided since I was out and about at 12:30pm for work, I'd stop by to check. Fowzia went above and beyond and upgraded my room, since they only had the room ready, so I could put my decorations up and make our nigjt just that more special!! Thank you both from the bottom of my heart!! I definitely do recommend Hotel Phillips.

This establishment is absolute trash. We arrived at 430pm for a 4pm check in and had to wait almost an hour for a room, mind you we made reservations weeks in advance. We got to the room and left for dinner an hour later. When we arrived back to the room about 3 hours after we checked in it was obvious someone had been in our room without permission. I went to the front desk for an explanation, first I was told the manager was out for the day and couldn't be reached. Edmund Vaughn was the manager i spoke to. As soon as I started to make a scene he magically appeared. He then proceeded to try and gaslight me, then dismissed himself to discuss it with house keeping. What he did was call my wife and threaten to call the cops. As soon as she arrived in the lobby so did the manager and immediately threatened to call the cops again if I didn't leave. I'll be filing a lawsuit and advise anyone that cares about their privacy to avoid this place. I'll burn it down before I stay here again.

The highlights of staying here were that the streetcar is so close and the staff were friendly. Our hotel room was not ready when we came to check-in around 4:30pm but we did not have to wait in the lobby for very long to get a room. Our stay was just okay, as there was a vague odor in the building and it was humid in the common areas. Pictures online did not necessarily match up with our experience. Would look into alternative options along the streetcar line if I were to visit Kansas City again.

Staff and speakeasy are fantastic, the lobby is gorgeous, and the location is convenient. Luggage storage is not very secure, so I didn't feel comfortable leaving a tote with the desk. The rooms are musty, like there have been issues with moisture in the air system or carpets. The carpets are visibly discolored and wear is obvious on the walls. Light fixtures are very dusty. The shampoo and body wash fragrance is ... An acquired taste. The makeup wipes provided in the bathroom must have been there for an age because they were soured. The most annoying bit was that a coffee maker was provided, the service of each option was for one. All in all, it was okay, but I might try a different spot next time.

What a wonderful visit to the Hotel Phillips in Kansas City. Edmund was an excellent host from our check in to our check out. The other hotel staff were also very friendly and made the stay just great. We took advantage of Thursday evening at the Speakeasy in the Lower Lobby level with live Jazz. We also ate at Akoya which is accessed through the lobby and was very amazing Sushi. The room was very spacious and very comfortable bed made for great sleeping. Loved the water pressure and heat of the shower as well. Great visit and keep up the great work.
