The honest summary: cruising in Seoul happens indoors. The city has a network of men-only gay saunas (jjimbang), a few small sleep-over venues called hyugetel, one cruise club and one leather club with backrooms. There is no outdoor cruising scene we can recommend: the parks that older guides name in Jongno are described by Korean community sources as history, public sex is a criminal offence, and being outed can cost a Korean man his job and family. Use the private venues below.

Legal in one line: sex between men is legal for civilians in South Korea (age of consent 16), but there is no partnership recognition or anti-discrimination law. Sexual activity in a public place, including an ordinary bathhouse, is public indecency under Article 245 of the Criminal Act, punishable by up to a year in prison or a fine of up to ₩5 million; police raided a men's sauna in Geumcheon in February 2026. Soldiers remain subject to Article 92-6 of the Military Criminal Act.

Two words that matter

A jjimbang (찜방) is a gay cruising sauna. A jjimjilbang (찜질방) is a family bathhouse, full of children, grandparents and off-duty soldiers. Do not cruise in a jjimjilbang or a neighbourhood mokyoktang: staff call the police. The community word for gay is iban (이반).

Gay saunas

    • He's (formerly Hyundae), 2F, 10 Bogwang-ro 60-gil, Itaewon – 24 hours, at the foot of Homo Hill. VAYL listed ₩15,000 by day and ₩20,000 at night in March 2026. Foreigner-friendly; several reviews allege locker thefts, so leave valuables at your hotel.
    • Shelter, B1, 33-3 Sinbanpo-ro 47-gil, Seocho-gu – by Nonhyeon station (Line 7), listed 24 hours, with a maze, darkroom and cabins. Foreigners have paid a flat ₩20,000.
    • Oban, 14 Sinbanpo-ro 45-gil, Seocho-gu – about 100 metres from Shelter on the parallel lane, with pools and a steam room; phone 02-540-1961 before going.
    • Cuba (formerly Black), 4F, 6 Bongeunsa-ro 1-gil, Gangnam-gu – listed 24 hours; reported as hard for foreigners to enter.
    • Prince, 3F, 60 Sinchon-ro, Mapo-gu – dry cruise venue near Sinchon station, 24 hours but closed Tuesdays, ₩20,000 flat. Many reports of foreigners being turned away.
    • Adam, 11-1 Wangsan-ro, Dongdaemun-gu – a neighbourhood-style bathhouse with a gay following and an older Korean crowd.
    • Hyugetel (sleep-over venues with rest rooms rather than pools): Z Hyugetel in the Jongno 3-ga bar alleys and Samson near Gyodae station. Both are local venues with little English.

    Cruise club and backrooms

    • Equus, B1, 545-18 Gangnam-daero, Seocho-gu – a cruise club rather than a sauna, listed 24 hours, with underwear, naked and S&M theme nights.
    • Eagle Seoul, B1, 13 Usadan-ro 12-gil, Itaewon – the leather and fetish club on Homo Hill, with backrooms and theme nights at weekends.

    Closed

Mun Hwa, the Jongno sauna many guides still list, was reported closed in mid-2025. GM Sauna near Dongdaemun was marked permanently closed in 2025.

    Apps

Jack'd and Grindr are the apps most cited in Korea. Local men often move the chat to KakaoTalk. Many are not out, so never share someone's photos or name, and agree to meet in a bar or a private venue.

    Safety and etiquette

    • Never use your phone camera inside a sauna. Korea has a serious hidden-camera problem, and phones sold there make a shutter sound.
    • Consent: a hand pushed gently away means no, and it is final.
    • Bring cash, ID and your own condoms and lube. Some venues add VAT for cards.
    • Door staff sometimes refuse foreigners, older men or anyone who doesn't fit the house type. Don't argue; go to the next venue.
    • Korean drug law is harsh, and it applies to foreigners.
