Maek Hotel Antwerp Central

Very comfortable for our overnight stay

Booked two months in advance, allergies communicated — and yet nuts served twice. I attended a work event for which the meals were **ordered two months in advance** and where I had clearly communicated my severe allergies. Nevertheless, I was first served a dish with nuts and cheese, to which I am allergic. After a long wait, I was then served another dish — this time with peanuts. When most guests had already finished eating, a staff member came over in a panic to tell me that all the ingredients were listed in German and he didn't know what was in them. I speak German and helped check the ingredients myself, after which it turned out that this dish also contained almonds. Finally, almost at the moment of dessert, I was served some chicken wings and chicken nuggets with BBQ sauce that had been picked up from a nearby chip shop. The excuse given was that there was no cook in the kitchen. That is no excuse when a meal is **ordered two months in advance** and allergies have been clearly communicated beforehand. Someone with a food allergy is entitled to expect that information to be handled carefully and professionally. Serving nuts twice to someone with a nut allergy is downright irresponsible. Very poor and unprofessional service. I have rarely felt treated so poorly in a hotel.

Wonderful front desk staff. Superb room overlooking Stadspark. Very close to the main train station and a vast array of restaurants. Car parking is perhaps 200metres away from hotel but it is fairly easy to get between both sites.

What a terrible hotel and very poor organization.

Stunning hotel, everything clean and tidy. Fantastic breakfast. Within a 10-minute walk of the center of Antwerp. The park you have to walk through is well lit.

This review is solely for the poor service I experienced when I forgot my wallet and keys in the room safe. I called on the day of my departure. I was given an email address to which I was supposed to send my address. Since there was no response after a few days, I sent several follow-up emails, again without reply. Only after several phone calls, further emails, and the threat of contacting the police did my valuables finally arrive after several weeks – after I created a shipping label and even then only after repeated inquiries. Luckily, I didn't urgently need any of it at the time. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. Otherwise, the hotel was in a good location and quite nice. There was another incident, which was resolved: we misinterpreted the breakfast time and arrived 15 minutes before closing with three children. We were told we could still have breakfast. As soon as we sat down, they started clearing the tables. We were then told to get something from the trolley, which isn't really feasible with three small children. I then complained at reception and the price for breakfast - which was around 70 euros - was deducted again.

The room was clean, but the bed was very bad (some kind of mattress topper, uneven, you fall in the middle). The breakfast was decent, although the offer doesn't change throughout the day.

Stayed here for a weekend getaway. Pros: -Convenient location. Central station is within walking distance. The city park is across the street. City center is also within walking distance. -Friendly and helpful receptionists. They make the check in process smooth and fast, and give tips on what to see in Antwerp -Stylish interior Cona: -noisy in the night. My room is facing the street, so I can still hear people and cars in the night

We are a family with two children, ages 11 and 14, and we booked a Junior Suite for three nights. Unfortunately, after a few hours in the room, we realized the air conditioning wasn't working. The problem was that the room, with its beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows, was flooded with sunlight until sunset. To try to mitigate the heat, we pulled the blackout curtains and reported the problem to reception. The biggest problem was that they didn't have an equivalent room for us, but they reassured us that they would contact customer service the following day to replace the part (which eventually arrived, but it wasn't working). They offered us a smaller room, but we declined. Mr. Martin Argote was very helpful, always courteous, and proactive. After failing to resolve the issue to our satisfaction, he offered us a partial refund at the end of our stay. Another negative was breakfast: on the first day, when I came down at 9:00 a.m. (breakfast is from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.), many of the dishes were sold out and weren't refilled. The waitress was more busy clearing the tables than checking to see if anything was missing from the buffet. The next day, I asked her to please refill the items. Excellent rating for the gym, which is well-equipped with a wide variety of equipment. Let's just say that overall, I didn't find the service up to par with a four-star hotel.

Everywhere: the doors of our room, but also of other rooms in the vicinity, sometimes stick; it is clearly audible. The bathroom tap makes a squeaking sound.
