Beautiful old hotel with inspiring art. Very good beds. Delicious breakfast. Perfect location for a weekend in the city. Friendly staff.

This was my absolute favorite hotel of our 10-day trip through Denmark and Sweden. The reception warmly greeted us upon arrival. We were shown to our room, a huge corner space with a nice view. The art on display is super fun and whimsical. One of the concierge workers, whose name I'm not sure we ever got, was absolutely wonderful. We nick-named him top-hat guy and he seemed to appear out of thin air, reminding us of the sneaky butler in "Mr. Deeds." The entire hotel has a Wes Anderson vibe, which we absolutely loved. The honor bar is a fun space with great music, lots of choices and fresh garnishes. The restaurant/breakfast room is like a suspended, glass-ceilinged garden space where a full morning buffet is offered. The hotel itself is centrally located, a 10-minute straight-shot walk from the main station and easily walkable all around town. Aarhus itself is an amazing city with so much to offer. I highly recommend Hotel Royal.

Nice hotel with very large rooms, excellent breakfast in a beautiful glass-enclosed pavilion, and helpful and friendly staff. The rooms perhaps need renovation, but this old-fashioned air is also part of its charm. The church bell in the square will surely wake you up at 8 o'clock sharp, as it goes on for 4 minutes. The only downside is the valet parking; upon arrival, the cost was not communicated to me, and at check-out, I found myself having to pay more than 90 euros per day just for parking; leave it in a public parking lot instead.

From the moment you arrive, you are immediately won over by the retro chic and elegant style that gives it a true soul and a lot of character. Located in the heart of Aarhus, which makes it easy to visit the whole city and the restaurants on foot. A big thank you to the entire staff, who are extremely helpful, attentive, and always available to make the stay pleasant. A historic establishment full of charm that I highly recommend for a stopover in Aarhus!

Fantastic sweet welcome. We got a lovely room with views of the cathedral. It's great, just except from 8 a.m. the next morning, when the calling :-P Good bed! The breakfast buffet was a little overwhelming, but really delicious.

This old world hotel is a landmark in Aarhus. It dates back to the 1800s with an elevator that is 100 years old. It is centrally located. Service is good but not great. The hotel is clean. Breakfast buffet is very good. Cautions: 1) If you select the smallest room you will literally be able to sit on the toilet and take a shower at the same time. Not sure how sanitary this condition is. 2) Do NOT stay here in the summer, especially if there is a heat wave. There is NO A/C. They will provide a fan but it is not adequate.

The Hotel Royal enjoys an excellent location in the heart of Aarhus, and the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and eager to help throughout our stay. Unfortunately, our experience in a Superior Room did not live up to expectations. The hotel often emphasizes the charm of its historic building, but being an old property should not be an excuse for neglecting maintenance and cleanliness. While the room certainly had character, many details felt simply old rather than charming. Decorative vases with dried plants were covered in visible dust. The water kettle was heavily scaled and still contained leftover water from previous guests. The bathroom bin was worn and damaged, and the bathrobes looked so heavily used that we were reluctant to wear them. The bathroom was particularly disappointing. Most fixtures showed water stains, limescale marks or roughened surfaces that suggested inadequate cleaning. The exhaust vent was covered in dust and looked quite unpleasant. After mentioning it to the staff, we were told it would be cleaned, but this never happened. Another issue was the air conditioning. Despite being set to cooling mode and later checked by staff, it appeared only to circulate air rather than cool the room. This significantly affected comfort. Housekeeping also fell short of expectations. There was no turndown service, and after returning late in the evening we had to request fresh towels ourselves. What makes this especially frustrating is the contrast between the excellent attitude of the staff and the condition of the room itself. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind and professional. However, I have rarely felt as uncomfortable in a hotel room because of cleanliness and maintenance issues as I did here. With better upkeep, deeper cleaning and more attention to detail, this could be a much stronger hotel. In its current state, I would not choose to stay here again.

We tried a night in this hotel here in mid-May month 2026. The number of stars should be considered in relation to the price of accommodation. We stayed at Kings Suite, which can be expected to be good, as the price is about 3600 for a night. Arrival and check in: We arrived at about 13:00, which was 2 hours before you can normally check in. Asked, see the hotel's own information regarding early check-in to see if it was possible to check in early. The receptionist was unfortunately not so welcoming. Not that she was directly rude, but the way the answer was given, unfortunately, was not so lucky. Messages can be served in many ways. It just means so much that the first impression when checking in is good. We had with a smile accepted that the room was not ready yet, but it is only noted that it was not ready until 15 a.m. instead of saying try again in half an hour. Another family who had not booked a room in advance, which we had, got it immediately, and ours was free after only 15 minutes. However, had already paid for the entrance to the casino, so it was a little accident that we got them when the staff saw that we went there? Why is it not common that all guests are offered it through your website and not just by chance? The room: Positive things: Very large (50 m2). The bed was really good. 2 large TVs and really good decoration. Negative things. The 2 showers in the bathroom ran with a total of 3 rays each (total caly). No milk or similar to the coffee in the room as standard. Breakfast: Really good and fresh raw materials. Very tasty and delicious. However, I have heard from a reliable source that the kitchen rules say that the staff must not use private water bottles for filling, for example, Danish water. There is little focus on hygiene in this case. Really wanted to give 3 stars, but get 4 stars, as some of the above can be improved quickly.

We had a great stay at Hotel Royal! From the moment we entered, we were greeted by an incredibly friendly and helpful staff who really went the extra mile for us to feel welcome and comfortable. They were always smiling, attentive and ready to help with everything – from good advice about the area to small wishes in the room. The room was clean, spacious and really comfortable, with everything you could need during a stay. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was nice and modern. All in all a perfect experience! We highly recommend Hotel Royal and give without a doubt 5 out of 5 stars. We will definitely come back the next time we visit the area.
