Sundlaug Akureyrar

Sundlaug Akureyrar is the town's main geothermal public swimming pool, on Skólastígur just south of the centre. It has an outdoor lap pool, several hot pots at different temperatures, a steam bath and water slides, and it draws families, lap swimmers and visitors year round. It is a mainstream public facility, not a gay sauna and not a cruising spot. Akureyri has no dedicated gay venues, but Iceland is very accepting and the pool is a relaxed place to spend an afternoon. Etiquette is strictly enforced: you must shower without a swimsuit before going in.
