Clean with excellent service
Extremely disappointing experience – elderly guests beware I booked Delta Hotels by Marriott Milton Keynes for six nights for my 84-year-old father. The room had no air conditioning, no fridge and no telephone. We raised this almost immediately because my father has hypertension and struggles to sleep in excessive heat. Reception staff advised us to find alternative accommodation and request cancellation through Booking.com. We followed their advice and paid for another hotel. Only afterwards did management tell us they would not refund the booking, claiming there was a policy of no refunds where the reason for leaving was lack of air conditioning. This policy had not been mentioned at check-in, was apparently unknown to the staff we initially spoke to, and we could not find it disclosed when booking. After initially expecting us to forfeit the entire six-night payment, management eventually agreed to refund four nights only if we paid for and stayed a second night, despite knowing we had already paid for alternative accommodation. That second night cost over £200. To make matters worse, by approximately 8pm our room had still not been cleaned. Reception explained that they had around 150 rooms but only three staff cleaning them. My elderly father therefore could not settle into his room at his preferred time. Between the unwanted second night and the alternative hotel we had already paid for after following staff advice, this experience cost us over £400 in additional losses. What disappointed me most was not simply the lack of air conditioning. It was the way the situation was handled: changing positions, an alleged cancellation policy that had not previously been disclosed, and insisting that an elderly guest remain for a second night while apparently lacking the staffing capacity to provide timely housekeeping. I contacted both Marriott and Booking.com seeking a resolution. Neither has responded to my complaint. I would strongly advise anyone booking this hotel, particularly for an elderly or vulnerable guest, to confirm in writing before paying whether your room has air conditioning, a fridge and a telephone, and obtain the hotel's cancellation/refund terms in writing before check-in. I expected considerably better from a hotel carrying the Marriott name.
Rooms need renovation, no cleaning or freshening service... The bar service is terrible. You wait in vain for a server to even acknowledge you. The restaurant is a little better, but still unprofessional. The food is adequate, nothing special. The location was suitable for our trip.
