Turma OK started in 1961 as a group of gay friends meeting in private homes, and it is generally counted as the oldest LGBT association in Brazil. Today it runs a small members-style space on Rua dos Inválidos in central Rio, near Lapa, where it puts on drag, transformista and variety shows, mostly at weekends. It is a community club with a lot of history, not a large nightclub. The crowd skews older and local, and the shows lean on classic Brazilian camp. Drinks are cheap. Programming is irregular, so check their social media for show nights, and take a taxi or ride-hail home late at night, as you would anywhere in Lapa.

A nice bar with drag queens and kings. Most of the time, though, they were auctioning off clothes – which was unfortunately boring and not very funny.
