Caneca de Prata (the Silver Mug) is a long-running gay bar at Avenida Vieira de Carvalho 63, just off Praça da República in central São Paulo. Vieira de Carvalho is the city's old downtown gay strip. This is a plain, cheap bar with a mixed-age, mostly local crowd, quite different from the newer clubs in Jardins and Consolação. It's next door to the other bars on the avenue, so most people stop here for a drink or two and then move on along the street. The centro is quieter at night than the bar strip suggests, so take a ride-hailing car to and from the street instead of walking long distances after dark.
