Terrible experience at the hotel. We had problems from the moment we arrived. We went to celebrate our anniversary and extended our stay to also celebrate my partner's birthday. I requested in advance via email if the hotel could provide any complimentary or paid services, but I received no response. I called twice beforehand to inquire about the room and request a room with an ocean view. They replied that there would be no problem and that I could arrange it directly at check-in. Upon arrival, they excused themselves by saying that no manager was present to make the change I had previously requested. After persistent insistence, they finally called someone and agreed. The room was obviously dirty, from the bedding to the bathroom, and even the minibar was filthy from use. The lack of attention to detail left much to be desired in terms of the overall experience. On the second day, we decided to bring our son with us and requested a room change. They moved us three times because the first time the room was dirty, the second time the heating wasn't working properly, and the second time the telephone was broken. And the third time was the "final" one, when we decided we didn't want to file any more complaints since we'd lost at least two others in all these changes and we just wanted to enjoy ourselves.
The hotel staff, at least at reception, leaves much to be desired. They aren't friendly, nor do they have good management or problem-solving skills. They repeatedly excuse themselves by saying they don't have a supervisor on hand to help them handle the problem. They don't apologize for what happened, much less try to make up for the bad experience. My partner and I both work in the hotel industry, so we know how to handle guest feedback, try to resolve the issue, offer appropriate apologies, provide upgrades, better service, a better experience, etc.
The Hotel Diego de Almagro in Punta Arenas leaves much to be desired; we definitely wouldn't return. The only thing we liked was the pool, even though the ambient temperature created a significant difference between entering and exiting it.
Finally, at 10:00 AM today, our check-out day, they "offered" me a late check-out fee in exchange for a complimentary "platter with two pisco sours" for my partner's birthday. Frankly, I found it to be a very tasteless joke. They presented the option so late, especially since I had given them ample notice of our arrival and the reason for our visit.
In short, a terrible experience. I absolutely do not recommend it.
