Plaza San Martín ⚠ Unverified Own this place?

Plaza San Martín is the big civic square of Lima's historic centre, inside the UNESCO-listed old town. Older gay guides name it as one of the city's traditional cruising grounds, but we found no independent source from 2024–26 that describes it as active. Since the political protests of recent years the square has had a heavy standing presence of police and Serenazgo (municipal security), and in 2023 the city stopped the Pride march from ending here. Same-sex relations are legal in Peru, but sex in a public place can be prosecuted, and the centre has a real problem with muggings and phone theft after dark. Lima's saunas and the apps are the safer way to meet men.
