「The Center」という愛称でニューヨーク市民に親しまれているこの施設は、1983年よりWest 13th Streetの208番地にある19世紀の元公立校を拠点としています。ここではサポートグループやリカバリーミーティング、保健・社会福祉サービス、若者や家族向けのプログラム、文化イベントなどが運営されており、数十ものLGBTQ+団体がその部屋で活動を行ったり、設立されたりしてきました。
最も有名な瞬間は1987年3月、Larry Kramerがここでスピーチを行い、数日後にACT UPが結成された時です。1989年にはKeith Haringが2階のトイレの壁に mural Once Upon a Time を描き、現在も保存されています。一般公開時間中は誰でも入場できますので、訪問前にgaycenter.orgでイベントカレンダーをご確認ください。

The renovated soace is so well done. All sorts of different sized meeting rooms. Community room available for rental. Sweet garden. They had a cafe and will again. Great safe space for Queer Folks .
