AWOL has a great location, and aesthetically, the rooms look beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The rooms are ridiculously tiny, and the furniture is completely impractical. The mattresses are essentially on the floor, making getting in and out of bed incredibly difficult. The sofa is equally low and uncomfortable to get out of. There is nowhere to put a suitcase, no nightstands, and one tiny table barely large enough to hold two drinks. The closet space accommodates approximately five hangers, and the small hooks can barely hold a towel or robe. The lighting is absolutely terrible. Forget trying to read a book or even put on makeup in the bathroom. The room may photograph beautifully, but it is clearly designed for appearance rather than comfort or functionality. Service is equally disappointing. Staffing is extremely limited, and although the lobby is supposed to open at 7 a.m. for coffee and breakfast, it’s now 8:10 a.m. and there is still no one here. For a hotel at this price point, the lack of basic amenities, thoughtful design, and reliable service is unacceptable. AWOL is a perfect example of style over substance. Absolutely not worth the money, and I would not recommend staying here.
AWOL is one of our favorite places in the world. We have been going there for years and there is nothing like waking up to the view of the marsh through our living room windows. We stay in the Lark Suite and it has all of the things we need. A gourmet kitchen, a large living room, fabulous and comfortable bedroom and a roomy deck. The room and the hotel is clean and open. They have great breakfast foods available in the morning. We just love it and will keep going back for more.
Big disappointment. This place was called the Inn at the Moors until purchased by awol around 2017. Looked like they slapped a coat of black paint on everything and tripled the price. The floors were filthy linoleum, the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off. The beds (mattress only) were on a platform and you nearly killed yourself getting up. Careful you don't trip on that platform! The staff was helpful.
In August 2025, my husband and I spent a week at AWOL. We enjoyed our stay and decided to return the following year. Upon checkout, we told the front desk receptionist that we were looking forward to our return trip. In response, he presented us with a $30 coupon to be redeemed at check-in in 2026. In August 2026, we returned to AWOL. After experiencing questionable billing practices upon checkout and exceptionally poor customer service in response to those billing practices, we will NEVER return! We booked our return trip to AWOL in January 2026 and paid 50% of the outstanding balance for our stay. Upon arrival in August, husband paid the remaining 50% balance and redeemed the $30 off coupon that we received the previous summer. At the conclusion of our stay, my husband went to the office to return our room key. In front of other guests, the front desk receptionist told him that his credit card had been declined and that he owed an additional $754 for our stay. Embarrassed by this exchange, my husband paid the disputed balance allegedly due and owing and we left. Once we arrived home, my husband confirmed that our balance had been paid in full upon our arrival and that he had been overcharged by $754. When he contacted AWOL to reverse the charge, he received a response that our bill was "fully settled" and that there was no additional charge for $754. When my husband's credit card statement finally arrived, he confirmed that he had, in fact, been overcharged by $754. To make matters even worse, AWOL reversed the $30 coupon and added a $30 charge to my husband's card! My husband emailed the credit card statement to AWOL and received no response. Ultimately, my husband was forced to initiate a payment dispute with his credit card company. The $754 overcharge and $30 coupon reversal were addressed. However, on my husband's most recent credit card statement, he noticed that AWOL has re-charged him for the $30 coupon reversal. Unbelievable! Not sure if this is AWOL being petty or another billing snafu. Needless to say, we will be spending our money elsewhere in 2027.
Gorgeous property away from the craziness of downtown Provincetown but easily within walking distance. Amenities were super nice, breakfast was great, pool was warm, staff was friendly, room was very clean. Would definitely stay again.
We have been going to AWOL for many years. It is a beautiful well kept property that has magnificent views. The staff are spectacular. Attentive and helpful. The rooms are well appointed, clean and taken care of.
Let’s be clear. This is an old roadside motel that has been retrofitted to look trendy in pictures. It is a lipstick on a pig situation. The owner seems to have spent the absolute bare minimum to make it look Instagram ready but the place remains dilapidated. The floors were slanted, the walls are thin, everything is dated. The locks on the doors look like they could be pried open with a fingernail. The bed is a mattress on a platform on the floor. There are no tables, drawers, or lamps— the decorative lights barely made it possible to see at night. A tiny mini fridge was plopped in the middle of the room—and there was nothing in it. The TV was broken. There is no staff on site after 8 pm. The view is gorgeous. But charging boutique hotel prices ($800 plus a night??) and a “resort fee” for this old bag of bones is legit highway robbery. Never ever again and it turns me off of the entire Lark chain. Call me when you invest some of the money I spent in a bedside lamp.
Absolute must! Everything exceeded expectations. Came with my bestie to celebrate 30 years of friendship and enjoyed every minute! Beds were so comfy, personal patio, fun pool, complimentary bikes and breakfast, fire pits with s’mores at night, and the nicest people running the desk!! Perfect location close to the beach and close to the heart of the town - both within five minutes on bikes. We had the best time!!!!
A beautiful property and the perfect place to stay in Provincetown. The rooms are gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And those sunset views overlooking the marsh, while you’re sitting by the fire pit simply can’t be beat. Would 1000% recommend for your stay.
We booked AWOL through Mr&Mrs Smith, a platform we usually trust for reliable luxury hotels. We even paid more than we wanted to because we thought booking through them would guarantee a good stay. Sadly, this was not the case. We were also promised a welcome gift of a bottle of Prosecco and soft drinks, but none of these were provided. Check in was underwhelming. We arrived at sunset with heavy luggage and were met with a disinterested receptionist who clearly wanted to go home. There was no warm welcome, no offer of help with bags, and not even proper directions to our room. He just pointed in a vague direction. Dragging luggage across thick gravel to get there was hard work. The room itself was disappointing. It had a strong musky damp smell on arrival, and the décor was tired and basic compared to the online photos. The beds were on the floor and very uncomfortable. We were grateful our stay was not longer than three nights as they were not good for our backs. The walls were paper thin. We could hear conversations from next door, and on two nights there was a dog left alone barking loudly for hours. There was no desk, no chair, and nowhere practical to get ready. There was very little space for luggage and only a few hangers for clothing, which made unpacking impossible. Breakfast was far from luxury. A few pieces of fruit, some bagels, and yogurt if you got there early enough was about it. There is also nowhere to sit. You have to collect your food and either eat on your bed on the floor, or sit outside if the weather allows. In our case, the outside seating was soaking wet so we could not even use it. The pool was much smaller than advertised, and the location was not as peaceful as expected. There is a big road in front of the property, and it is a 30 to 40 minute walk into town. The complimentary bike rentals were a nice touch and made getting into town easier. The staff were fairly rude and disinterested throughout our stay. They did not greet us or welcome us when we passed by reception, and we felt like we were imposing just by being there. Overall, Provincetown itself is lovely, but AWOL fell short in almost every respect. It felt more like a step up from camping than a luxury hotel. For the price, we would definitely choose somewhere else if we return to Ptown. In future, we will do a lot more research into our hotels rather than relying on recommendations from Mr&Mrs Smith.
