The building itself was beautiful and well-decorated for Halloween. Otherwise, it's a below average experience. We booked based on all the good reviews but I wonder what we missed. Online it states "Complimentary Hot Breakfast for Guests Served daily in the Chapel", which was not true for 2/4 days of our stay. There was a convention booked in the chapel, so the other guests of the hotel were served pre-packaged food, cold cereal, juice, and coffee in the hallway. They did have a toaster and a microwave available though. Not exactly what was advertised or paid for, and we didn't find out until check in. Food was fine though. We booked a smaller room on the garden level since we weren't planning on spending much time in the hotel. The room was recently vacuumed, but the lines on the carpet betrayed how little they bothered to move any furniture when doing so. There were also large cobwebs (visible from across the room), and our shower door didn't close all the way. The bathroom light and fan were on the same switch which ended up being more annoying than one would think. The size of the room was fine for two people, but it's advertised as being able to accommodate up to four, since there are two beds. There's no way four people would be comfortable in such a 'cozy' space. We also considered opening the window blinds but the glass was too dirty to see out of anyway. The building is old, which is a plus, but it's easy to hear everyone else's footsteps and suitcases rolling around. It didn't bother us much since we get up early, but this isn't the place to sleep in. The staff was very friendly but knew surprisingly little about the surrounding area. Maybe we asked the wrong person, but "what's in walking distance" is a pretty common 'hotel question'. We looked it up just fine, but who knows what nearby interesting things weren't prioritized for the Google search algorithm. Just book a cheaper generic hotel to sleep in and stop by the Celeste bar for a drink and to look around.
Unsat as a hotel. Booked through Delta airlines. Assigned 'garden level' room, which translated to basement. Rooms were directly under the lobby/front desk and you could hear every step all night long. I only expect a few non-negotiables in a hotel room and quiet is one of them. After a bad night the first night, we told the staff how loud it was overnight and asked them to be conscientious about having guests under foot but it was actually worse the second night. On checkout I asked if they had received feedback like that before and they chuckled and said yes to noise and the misleading 'garden level' label. That tells me they know it's a problem but don't care as long as they get the booking.
Kerry (not sure of spelling) is a delight! All 5 stars for her.
The hotel was converted from a convent. The rooms and architecture are very interesting. It has a great little bar and parking close by. A great place to stay if attending any events in downtown St Paul.
It’s a let down staying at Celeste. I really like how unique the hotel and the rooms are. The price is very reasonable. The location is convenient but it’s right by light rail so if you are not used to sleeping with background noise, that can be an issue. Personally it’s fine with me. The biggest disappointment is the service starting with checking in. The staff, though tried her best, lacks local knowledge. She was not able to provide some basic information for the surrounding areas. I stayed 4 nights. 2 days the room was not cleaned, not tidy up. It’s very disappointed coming back to the hotel room after a long day out. May be the management needs to have a QA/QC process for housekeeping. One morning the staffs already started helping themselves with breakfast though many quests were still coming. The coffee is probably the worst. I didn’t really expect much but it’s beyond drinkable. It’s just too bad. The hotel has such great potential.
Gorgeous property in downtown St Paul. I loved the renovation, staff, bar and decor. Very nice cocktails at reasonable prices. The room was very clean and nicely appointed. I was on the ground floor, and unfortunately there was not much ventilation or illumination. Bathroom was good and nice temperature and water pressure. The area is rather dodgy but that is downtown St Paul unfortunately. Great option in a sea of boring chain hotels. Price was decent for central location.
