Great resource for the Salem, Oregon community if you need support with addiction management, harm reduction supplies, and other community information regarding recovery. The staff is incredibly supportive, non-judgmental, and dedicated to meeting people where they are at. They offer vital, life-saving resources in a safe environment. Highly recommend checking them out if you or a loved one needs assistance.

having been a client of HIV services in other locations, I have been consistently dismayed by my experiences with the Alliance. when I was suddenly and violently unhoused and reached out to become a client so that I could get a referral for emergency housing assistance, 6 weeks passed and I never heard from anyone. by the end of that 6 weeks, I had found and secured housing but needed rental assistance for the move-in (the $2000 deposit wiped out what little I had saved from disability payments). I made certain to reach out to the Alliance almost a month in advance of my move-in, to comfortably accommodate intake and paperwork. I had to hound my caseworker to get the smallest scrap of update and, after 3 weeks of waiting and with about one week til move-in and no communication, I escalated to filing a grievance. I heard from Renee, the executive director, pretty quickly and was able to get everything secured, with a promise of improvement. most recently, I was contacted by someone at the Alliance to schedule a phone intake with a nurse. I scheduled the appointment for approximately two weeks later. between that call and my appointment day, I received an unpleasant and vaguely threatening letter from the nurse saying that I needed to call and schedule an appointment. as I already had it scheduled, I disregarded this letter. the day of my phone intake came, I was ready at my appointment time, and never heard from the nurse. this organization has serious systems-level service issues that put already marginalized people at further risk, and they're the only organization in my area that serves people living with HIV/AIDS. I understand that monopolies tend to foster disinterest in improvement, but it's unacceptable that the Alliance is so grossly disorganized.
