The Crown Hotel

Comfortable, excellent stay ,close to the beach and safe swimming with surf lifesavers right there where you swim ,flat water edge! Plenty of top cafes and restaurants and fish & chips, the fish an chips from the Dutchman takeaways was the best I've had in a long time !! I went to the thirsty whale for dinner, was delicious with water front views. I highly recommend the Crown Hotel 💯🏆

Napier is a must-visit for anyone traveling to New Zealand. This city was completely destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake and rebuilt in Art Deco style, which is something you won’t find anywhere else in the world. If you're looking to stay in the heart of a small town, there are many hotels to choose from. But if you want the perfect combination of small-town charm, culture, beach, relaxation, and local idyll, then Ahuriri is the place to be – and ideally at the Crown Hotel. The hotel offers spacious, well-appointed suites with terraces and sea views at a very reasonable price. There are numerous small shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance, and the beach is just 50 meters away. The parking is conveniently located directly under the building, and the staff is incredibly helpful (thanks to Michelle and the whole team!). A stay here easily justifies a full week, but we unfortunately only had three days. We will definitely return, even though coming from Austria is a bit of a journey!

We stayed at The Crown Hotel Napier for two nights to celebrate our wedding, and it turned out to be one of the most unsettling and distressing experiences we’ve ever had in a hotel. A staff member, Clinton, behaved in an extremely inappropriate manner, his uniform was torn in a way that left him exposed, and his conduct was unprofessional and uncomfortable throughout our stay. After our first night, we returned to find our room disturbed and some jewelry missing. When we raised this with staff and the general manager, Michelle, instead of showing concern or offering help, she became defensive and dismissive. We have a recording of this call. The room itself was in poor condition: the “jacuzzi” was a basic bath with filthy jets, there were stains on the bedding, damp patches on the walls that looked like mold, and the general cleanliness was unacceptable. We also noticed flashing lights in the fake fire detector and what looked like a small camera in a vent. We photographed this and raised it with the front desk, but were told it was “impossible.” The sense of being watched made us feel unsafe and violated in what should have been a private space. To make matters worse, after checking out we discovered one of our phones missing. Location tracking showed it still at the hotel, but when we showed staff the evidence, they denied having it and even threatened to call the police. We have reported this to the authorities. This was not just a disappointing stay it was disturbing. Between the offensive staff behavior, missing belongings, unsanitary conditions, and lack of accountability, this hotel completely failed to provide even basic safety or respect for guests.Think twice before booking here. We would never stay again.
