Joya Garden & Villa Studios

The Villa Studio is a spacious suite, overlooking the garden and water feature. It gets the morning sun. Has its own entrance and patio and a view of treed hills and greenery. Host Paulina is welcoming and generous. The studio is self-catering (but a plentiful breakfast spread is bookable) and has a king-size bed, sofa and day-bed. The kitchenette has a countertop oven and electric hot-plates, coffee-plungers and plenty of cookware. A mini-fridge is inside cupboards, and a half-size fridge is available in the storage room next door. The WiFi is very good.

Wasn't impressed with the Den. The mattress was super lumpy, it didn't even look like a proper bed. Just a wooden frame with a lumpy, saggy mattress on top. When I looked under the frame itself there was a thick layer of dust on the floor, as if it hadn't been cleaned in years, and I was sleeping on top of it! The neighbours right outside my windows left lights on all night and let their dog out early evenings to have a good solid barking session, which was even louder as it was in a confined space. So it was not possible to relax after a day out until the dog was happy. The breakfast looked impressive but the bread was stale. At least the coffee was good, and that was available in my room too which was a plus. I wasn't impressed the host went into my room when I was out to "empty the bin", when the bar fridge was dirty inside and the freezer tray full of water. The place was about 15 minutes walk from town but at the base of Grampians Walk, which was a good workout. Lovely old house though, the host was gracious and the bathroom was the best room in the house, but I expected a different standard for all that was promised.

We had a wonderful stay at Joya's. Paulina was incredibly hospitable, enthusiastic, and kind. The garden studio was very comfortable, with a beautiful view from the terrace and lovely peace and quiet. It was a relaxed 10-minute walk to the center. Paulina also gave us great tips, so we had a lovely dinner at the Free House and enjoyed breakfasts at the beautiful Melrose House just down the street. This accommodation is highly recommended!

You can also relax on the terrace in the evenings. Recommendation: Choose to include breakfast. Very friendly hostess.

Paulina is a lovely host, and this was a perfect spot to spend time while in Nelson! Beautiful room upstairs with a sweeping view of Nelson, the surrounding hills & the sea. Thoughtful touches, comfortable bed, very clean. The birds could be heard at all times! Shared bathroom was no problem at all (and a beautiful bathroom indeed). Small little balcony area that we took advantage of daily. We loved Nelson as a spot to stay for a few days, and tour around some of the nearby to-dos: Abel Tasman, Nelson Lakes, waterfront towns, wineries. And to top it all off - the breakfast spread is so fun! Honestly an incredible value for an inexpensive stay. Thank you for the lovely accommodation. If we ever make it back to Nelson - we'll be sure to book here again.
