A good destination for those interested in architecture and Aalto. Otherwise not amazing.

I was looking for a place to take a day trip from the center of Jyväskylä and this place came up, so I decided to come. I arrived at 11am on a Monday, so the museum, library, and cafe were all closed, and unfortunately I had to leave after only looking around from the outside. I thought it was inconvenient that the opening hours of the facilities were all different, even though they were all in the same building.

Great architecture. Worth a visit if you like Aalto's design. A guided tour will give you more detailed information about the house. You can also go around part of it independently. There is also a café downstairs with several different options for both salty and sweet cravings. Very friendly service in both.

Only two groups can stay at a time. The shower room is shared.

The legendary municipal hall designed by Aalto until Säynätsalo was annexed to Jyväskylä and today the old library is still in operation, but there is no information about the rest of the building.

A masterpiece by Alvar Aalto. I had the opportunity to stay overnight by contacting the Tavolo Bianco Agency, which arranges accommodation in several mini-apartments within the building. These apartments have a bathroom, a small kitchen, two beds, a dining table, and a work table. In the morning, they include a tour of the building and an explanatory video in one of the rooms. The sheer amount of detail the architect worked on is impressive. He carefully selected the bricks, even choosing the imperfect ones to create walls with a wider range of tones. The woodwork is magnificent. The upstairs living room is breathtaking, with magnificent trusses supporting the roof. It has a central courtyard inspired by Mediterranean designs. “With exceptional control of space, light, materials, and its relationship with the surrounding forest, it is conceived as a small village within a village.” Requests for off-season visits must be made one day in advance. Tickets: €10/€6 (students, seniors, and unemployed). Free admission with the Finnish Museum Card. Free admission with PRESS, ICOM, ICOMOS, and DOCOMOMO cards. Free for children under 18.
