Molly House is a queer bar on Richmond Street that leans into cabaret and drag instead of the usual chart‑toppers. The spot sits just off Canal Street in Manchester's Gay Village, its name a nod to the 18th‑century molly houses where gay men met in secret. Inside, the vibe feels less like the big Canal Street clubs and more like a community lounge. You’ll see a mix of women, trans and non‑binary patrons, and the night program leans toward cabaret, drag and themed parties rather than mainstream pop hits. The bar serves craft beer and a handful of cocktails at prices that are low for the Village. Molly House is closed on Mondays. It opens at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends, staying open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Thursday through Saturday are the busiest nights, so expect a fuller house then.

We had visited The Molly House a couple of days earlier and thought it was good, but it really came into its own when we returned for food. The vegan selection was excellent, with plenty of choice across the menu. The croquettes were among my favourite dishes for what turned out to be an outstanding meal. Everything we ordered was insanely good and paired perfectly with the excellent wine selection. Our only regret was not coming for food earlier in our stay, as we would happily have worked our way through the menu a second time. A fantastic meal and an easy five stars.
