Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, and the experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the outstanding service throughout the resort, we truly felt valued as guests. The customer service was exceptional, and the staff consistently went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The breakfast buffet was absolutely delicious! If you visit, you MUST get an omelet prepared by Juan or Sandy—chef's kiss! The breakfast greeters were always friendly, but one young lady in particular stood out. She had bangs and wore red lipstick and made a point to remember guests' names and greet them personally each morning. That level of intentionality did not go unnoticed and made us feel so welcome. The hibachi grill was such a great experience that we went twice during our 5-night stay. One of the chefs was named Juan, and although I don't remember the other chef's name, both were engaging, entertaining, and prepared amazing meals. A gentleman we met at the hibachi table recommended Oceana, and we're so glad he did! We enjoyed it so much that we dined there twice as well. I loved the grilled marlin, and my husband couldn't stop talking about the surf and turf. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The pool area was another highlight of our trip. The atmosphere was fun and relaxing, and the poolside service was excellent. I have to give a special shoutout to Jon Cena from the at the pool! He was fantastic and brought so much energy and fun to our vacation. He refereed the pool volleyball games and led the water aerobics classes, both of which were highlights of our stay. He did an amazing job getting guests involved and creating a fun atmosphere around the pool. His positive attitude and enthusiasm truly enhanced our experience. One thing to mention: because there was a strong odor coming from the beach during our stay, many guests chose to spend their time at the pool, making pool chairs highly sought after. We arrived before breakfast to save chairs and were unaware of the resort's policy that chairs cannot be reserved before 9:00 a.m. without someone being present. While we were at breakfast, security apparently took photos of our belongings and was preparing to remove them. Thankfully, a family seated nearby let security know we had only stepped away for for a quick sec and would be returning shortly. While I understand the policy, I don't recall it being clearly communicated, so it's something future guests may want to keep in mind. The nightly entertainment was also excellent and gave us something fun to look forward to each evening. SMarilyn, our waitress in the lobby for the lobby entertainment, deserves special recognition. She was sweet, funny, attentive, and genuinely made our experience even more enjoyable. My only real criticism would be the vacation club/timeshare sales pressure. The sales efforts were much more aggressive than expected, and at times I felt like I had to be firm just to end the conversation. A more relaxed approach would make the guest experience even better. Overall, we had an amazing anniversary trip and created memories we'll cherish for years to come. The resort, the food, the entertainment, and especially the people made this a truly special vacation. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we're already planning another trip with family and friends (adults only, of course!). Thank you to everyone at Secrets Cap Cana for helping make our 10-year anniversary celebration so memorable. We can't wait to return!

We just got back from a weeks stay. The resort was beautiful. Our concierge, Reinaldo, was amazing! He took care of us from the time we arrived at the resort to the time we left. The best meal we had was at the French restaurant. The hibachi was a close second. The only down fall was going this time of year. May, June and July have a really bad problem with seaweed so it made swimming in the ocean impossible and the smell was very hard to bear. The workers did their best but it was too much every day to keep up with. I would also recommend the Preferred rooms over the standard. We have done both and will go back to Preferred. The extra cost is absolutely worth it.

This hotel has not met expectations, particularly for a Secrets property. The rooms feel outdated and lack the modern amenities one would anticipate. The overall atmosphere is quite dull, with minimal entertainment options, and the food experience is disappointing. We were promised early check-in as American Express Platinum members, but instead, we waited two hours until 3 PM for regular check-in. After just one night, we chose to check out early due to uncomfortable conditions, such as cracked mirrors and leaking showers. Additionally, they have fallen short in providing adequate services for American Express Platinum members, which is surprising. We've had much better experiences at other Secrets locations and have decided to switch to Excellence for the remainder of our trip. If you're seeking a vibrant atmosphere, this isn't the right choice.

This luxurious Hyatt hotel completely won us over. Last year we stayed at the Secret Akumal in Mexico, which was already exceptionally good with its green spaces. Here, the grounds were more open, but very well-maintained, and the beach in particular was significantly better than in Akumal. It was very wide, very well-kept, and cleaned daily, sometimes several times a day – a true barefoot beach. You can walk far out into the very calm sea, which our American friends, however, used more for a bit of a party with their drinks than for swimming. But that's something you have to know and accept; everyone defines their vacation differently. The resort is impeccably maintained, every area, including the rooms, which were also better laid out than in Mexico. The very large walk-in shower is truly amazing. The rooms were cleaned twice a day – but is that really necessary? Breakfast was always the best part of our day, food-wise. Absolutely nothing was missing. Breakfast was exclusively at the Market Cafe, which is open 24/7. Coco Cafe, on the other hand, enchanted us not only with its extensive drink selection, which we hadn't seen anywhere else in Mexico, but also with its incredible friendliness. This friendliness extended to everyone without being overwhelming with tips; they were gratefully accepted, but not taken for granted. We happily distributed tips accordingly each day. The Market Cafe is also more than just an option for lunch, offering an incredible selection and delicious food. Regarding the evening dining options, we had the misfortune of encountering situations where not all restaurants were open due to various events. Unfortunately, this wasn't communicated. The quality was generally fine, and the service was the best part. For the aforementioned reason, we didn't get to try the Mexican or Japanese restaurants. We don't usually eat in the evening anyway, so we opted for a late lunch at the grill restaurant near the pool, and the food was absolutely delicious. Evening entertainment is practically nonexistent. There are occasional events in the lobby, but they are very limited in duration, so after 10 pm there wasn't much for us to do, but we were aware of this. Regarding the rooms, due to their construction and the sometimes high humidity, they can occasionally smell a bit musty, or your clothes can get damp. Dehumidifiers are available free of charge; one day the unit was completely full of water! :-) Everyone tries to make your vacation unforgettable. Next year, even though Secret Cap Cana will be hard to beat, we'll try Tides, but the bar is set high. In any case, we can 100% recommend Secret Cap Cana – a Caribbean vacation in an adults-only setting, just as you'd want it.

This was the best resort I have been too. The staff is great and the resort is so lovely and clean. The restaurants are top notch. This has been my favorite place I’ve been yet traveling.

This resort exceeded every expectation we had and was one of the best vacation experiences we’ve ever had. What stood out most was the staff. Every person we interacted with was friendly, genuine, and seemed to truly care about making sure we had a great experience. You expect good service at a luxury resort, but the level of hospitality and attention to detail here went above and beyond what we anticipated. The cleanliness of the property was outstanding. Our room was the cleanest room I’ve ever stayed in at an all-inclusive resort, and that same standard carried throughout the entire property. Everything was spotless, well-maintained, and clearly cared for. We stayed in the Preferred Club, and when we return, we’ll absolutely be booking it again. One of the biggest reasons was our butler, Philieep, who was one of the highlights of our trip. Every morning he checked in to see how our previous evening went, sent us a list of activities for the day, and made sure we had everything we needed. His professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care made a lasting impression. If you have the option to request a butler, ask for Philieep. The Preferred Bar was conveniently located, and David made some of the best Old Fashioneds I’ve ever had. Small touches like that made the experience even better. The food was easily the best I’ve had at an all-inclusive resort. Every restaurant we visited was excellent, and there was a great variety of options throughout the property. Our favorite dinner spot was Portofino, the Italian restaurant, but honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them. Rosewater quickly became one of our favorite places at the resort. We ate breakfast there almost every morning and always looked forward to it. The Market Café buffet also deserves recognition. I’ve never seen a buffet with that many options, and they continually changed the offerings so there was always something new to try. One unexpected highlight was the cigar boutique near the coffee shop. The selection was excellent, and the cigars showed the craftsmanship you’d expect from authentic premium brands. As someone who enjoys cigars, I only wish I had brought more home with me. Overall, this resort excelled in every category—service, cleanliness, dining, and overall experience. We left already talking about when we’d come back, which is probably the highest compliment I can give. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly relaxing and first-class vacation.

We left Secrets Cap Cana disappointed. The property is beautiful, the rooms were very nice, the grounds were well maintained, and the close proximity to the airport was convenient. The gated Cap Cana community and security presence at the entrance to the resort also made us feel very safe. Unfortunately, the overall experience did not live up to the premium price or five-star reputation. The biggest issue was management and the lack of follow-through. Throughout our stay, we repeatedly raised concerns and were promised solutions that never came. We even met with upper management before leaving and were told someone would contact us after we returned home. Despite multiple follow-ups, nobody ever reached out, and we ultimately had to dispute the charges with our credit card company. I’ve never experienced this level of poor hospitality at another all-inclusive resort. The food was mediocre (why is there little to no Dominican food?!), the daytime and evening entertainment/activities were underwhelming, and one of the events we were most excited about, the beach party, was canceled due to rain without being rescheduled. Even the drinks lacked consistency, with the same cocktail tasting completely different depending on where or when it was ordered. The pool experience was perhaps the most frustrating part of the trip. There were simply not enough chairs and umbrellas for the number of guests, despite 90-degree sunny weather every day. Guests shouldn’t have to wake up early and compete for a shaded place to relax at a resort charging these prices. The pool itself was way too warm to be able to cool off from the heat, there was very little shade, limited restroom access, and the multi-level design made it inconvenient to move between areas. Why are there no stairs to get in and out by the only swim up bar? Perhaps most disappointing was that it often felt as though service required either repeated pushback or cash tips. Requests for assistance with simple things, such as finding chairs or umbrellas or ordering food from Seaside Grill poolside, frequently went unanswered until we persisted. While we understand that tipping is appreciated, we did not expect the level of service at an all-inclusive resort to feel dependent on carrying cash. In our experience at other all-inclusive resorts, courteous and attentive service was provided consistently to all guests. The whole reason many people choose an all-inclusive is for the food, drinks, entertainment, and the opportunity to truly relax. For us, those were the areas that fell shortest. While there were certainly positive aspects of the resort, the experience ultimately did not justify the price we paid. UPDATE: We finally received a response from the Chief Concierge (is this even a manager?), well after the deadline we had been given and provided. Although the resort acknowledged many of the service failures we experienced, the only resolution offered was a complimentary Preferred Club room upgrade on a future stay. In other words, we would have to spend MORE money to return to a resort that failed to deliver the experience we had already paid for. After spending more than five hours of our vacation trying to resolve these issues (and even more after we returned home), we found this response extremely disappointing. What could have been an opportunity to restore our confidence in the resort ultimately felt like another missed opportunity to make things right.

I'll start with the positives: this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beach hotels I've ever stayed in. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The service, in general, is attentive, although there were a few isolated incidents where the service did not meet the expected standard. The most problematic aspect of the experience was the management of the pool area. Although it wasn't high season, by 10:30 am there were no more places available at the pool. We managed to get places at 1 pm, for 2 days, thanks to the goodwill of a very attentive employee. The pool hours are from 7 am to 7 pm, but towels are only provided from 9 am to 5 pm. On the first day, we had to beg for two towels at 5:15 pm. Although the hotel informs guests at check-in that reserving chairs with towels or personal items is not allowed, what we see is that, starting at 8 am, a large number of chairs—especially in the most popular areas—are occupied by towels, even though the pool is still relatively uncrowded. I asked an employee how those people had towels to reserve spots before 9 am, when the pool was still empty, but a large number of chairs were already reserved. The explanation that guests had taken wet towels to their rooms the previous day to use them the next day doesn't seem convincing. Besides, tips are given for everything... The impression is that there's a parallel dynamic of occupying these spaces, which is regrettable. We arrived early on the last day and managed to get into the last two spots in the most popular pool area, overlooking the beach. Later, I was approached by an employee who asked me, in an unusual way, if it was my first time in his area, and he advised me, in a manner that could have been more polite, to change chairs, as there was a single free chair next to us. It was difficult to make him understand that, when we arrived, that chair was occupied. As for the gastronomy, the experience fell far short of expectations. Even in the themed restaurants, such as the French and Italian ones, the quality was below average. The wine served is sold here in Brazil for $6 a bottle. As a positive exception, the beachfront restaurant stands out, which presented a higher level than the others. There are almost no snacks between meals. Near the pool you can order pizza or hamburgers or quesadillas, but on the beach only drinks. In short, it is a hotel of exceptional beauty and impressive facilities, but with flaws incompatible with the price paid and the claim to high luxury.

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Cap Cana to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and we had an amazing experience. The highlight of our trip was our butler, Alexis. He was outstanding—helping with restaurant reservations, checking in on us throughout our stay, and making sure everything was taken care of. He truly helped make our anniversary special, and we would absolutely request him again on a future visit. The food at every restaurant was excellent, the staff throughout the resort were attentive and friendly, and the nightly entertainment was fantastic. We especially enjoyed Jon Sena from the entertainment team, who brought great energy and fun to the main pool area. We highly recommend upgrading to the Preferred Club for the exclusive pool, premium drinks, and exceptional butler service. While there was some seaweed on the beach during our stay, that’s beyond the resort’s control and did not impact our overall enjoyment. Secrets Cap Cana is a beautiful resort with outstanding service, great dining, and a relaxing atmosphere. We would definitely return and highly recommend it to others.
