My husband and I stayed at Hotel Casa Mia for 10 days and found our stay very relaxing. The rooms are very quiet and clean. Cleanliness is clearly a top priority at this hotel, including the pool. The pool isn't large, but there's always an opportunity to swim alone or with a partner. All the staff are very nice, friendly, and helpful. The hotel provides free hot and cold drinking water, so we always had coffee available. The location is ideal, close to the beach and a very large supermarket, as well as the town center. We would definitely come back.

This is a charming hotel about five minutes’ walk to Playa Principal. This is a working fishing beach, with a mix of local families and small boat fishermen. Be sure to try the “vela” (sailfish) from a cevicheria when it’s available! My hotel room had an ocean view with gorgeous sunrises. It had AC and hot water. There wasn’t a ton of storage in the room or hair conditioner (shampoo and soap were provided). There’s a small pool and free hot and cold water. The WiFi was there, but not that strong. Most of the hotel staff knows little or no English, but there is enough WiFi for Google Translate if you don’t know Spanish but still want to give this a shot. Like a lot of hotels, if you book the first night online you can then negotiate a cash rate once you’re there, depending on availability. I went in November, the beginning of dry season. It’s the best time to go, but also a little pricier. This is because there is a major federal holiday the week of Nov. 20th that always includes a long weekend and many events. Also, it’s the beginning of the high tourism season and the end of daily rain showers. In November, theres still lush green foliage. Eventually, many plants stop producing chlorophyll and turn brown to conserve water for the six dry months. If you walk down the steps towards the beach, you reach the main beach road and in the evening they close the street down for a great night market. There is also a very nice, huge supermarket about four minutes’ walk above the hotel building. If you come back after 8ish pm, you have to enter a door code to enter the hotel because there are not agents there 24/7. Everyone was really nice! I traveled as a solo American female and I chose this hotel for its proximity to a no-frills beach and the ADO bus station (five min mute walk away). This hotel has a great rooftop terrace for sunrise/set and relaxing. Simply great, every time I come to Puerto Escondido, I stay very centrally and above all very quiet since buses or groups don't arrive, you really enjoy the tranquility.
