Conveniently situated near restaurants, grocery, entertainment, and public transportation. We got a less modern room, but it still delivered on space. Wasn't expecting a whole one bedroom apartment. There's a small living room, kitchenette, bedroom/w ensuite. Perfect for 2 people. The lobby is old timey, featuring cool marble statues, a fountain, and a beautiful piano lounge. There's also a library, movie theater, pool table, and 2 gyms. The staff is fairly young and a little goofy. They are however, very friendly and accommodating. When I was having issues with our first room they were willing to relocate us. Unfortunately it's hard to control the room temperature, no central air. If you're lucky you get a portable window air conditioner, otherwise, you have to crack a window. If it's a chilly day, you'll have to layer up, if the heat has been turned off. Since it is downtown, you will have to deal with a lot of outside noise. Bring your own ear plugs, the provided ones aren't very effective. The hot water also can take about 5 to 10 minutes to kick in. I about froze taking my first shower. I had to have the front desk explain how the plumbing worked. The gyms are also pretty grim. All the equipment seems to be from decades past. The weight room is pretty much just weights, no leg machines, or weight bench. The rowing machine is wooden with a worn down seat. The bike might be from the 90's? Overall it's great for the price. Would definitely recommend, if you want a whole suite for a bargain price or an apartment without contributing to the scam of Air B&B

And sometimes, the most memorable stays are the ones that leave you with a story — or three.* Bellingham, Washington is one of those quietly lovely Pacific Northwest towns that doesn't shout for attention but rewards those who show up. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, it has a certain unhurried grace. Hotel Leo fits right into that picture — at least aesthetically. From the moment you lay eyes on it, the place charms you. There is genuine character here — the kind of old bones that no amount of new construction can replicate. The renovation has been handled with a respectful hand, preserving the soul of the building while tidying it up for modern sensibilities. It whispers of another era, and you appreciate that whisper. We had done our research, made our choice deliberately, and booked the nicer ocean view suite. Not a happy accident, not a generous gesture from the front desk — a considered decision, paid for accordingly. That view is worth lingering over. The Pacific Northwest light falling over the water in the early evening is absolutely cinematic. You stand at that window and feel briefly, gloriously, like the protagonist of a very good novel. Where the Charm Gets a Little... Complicated Now. Here is where I must lean in and speak to you quietly, the way a well-travelled friend does — between tongue and tooth, as they say. The 3am Symphony Speaking of getting up — the ocean view suite gifted us with something we had not anticipated on the itinerary: a private concert, performed nightly by the freight trains that pass through Bellingham with absolute commitment and zero apology. Three in the morning. On the dot. Enthusiastic. If you are a light sleeper, or simply a person who enjoys sleeping, allow me to offer this hard-won guidance: request a room with a mountain view. Put some geography between yourself and the tracks. Your future rested self will thank your present planning self enormously. A Word on Hospitality Hotel Leo, the concept, is lovely. Hotel Leo, the front desk experience, is a work in progress — and I say that as gently as I possibly can while still being honest with you. I called the front desk twice to arrange a late checkout. A simple request, the kind made in hotels around the world every single day. On both occasions, the call ended before it truly began. Hung up on — once could be a mistake; twice becomes a pattern. There is warmth somewhere in this building, I am sure of it, but it had not quite made its way to the telephone on our particular visit. A little hospitality training would go a long way, and this hotel deserves to get there. The Honest Verdict Hotel Leo is a place with real potential and genuine charm — the bones are beautiful, the setting is lovely, and that ocean view suite will genuinely take your breath away at the right hour. But it is also a place that needs to close the gap between its aesthetic promise and its operational delivery. Go with open eyes, request the kitchen package in advance, and if a peaceful night's sleep ranks anywhere on your list of travel priorities, perhaps let the ocean view go and opt for the mountain side of the building instead. Pack your own coffee either way. Bellingham is worth the visit. Hotel Leo is worth the conversation. Just maybe not the 3am one.
Great place to stay while visiting your college student!
You need to take the time to explore this lovely hotel. What a historic gem. We booked a suite that gave us excellent space to visit with our kids who go to Western. Would love to stay again and play pool, hang in the library, watch a movie, explore the decks. Also loved the unique original tile work. Dog friendly!!!!
