I stayed at citizenM Washington DC NoMa for my birthday weekend, and unfortunately it turned into one of the most frustrating hotel experiences I’ve had. The biggest issue was the air conditioning. On the first night, the room became so uncomfortable that I had to move rooms around 2:00 AM. After being assured the issue was resolved, I continued to experience HVAC problems during the remainder of my stay. On my birthday, I woke up sweating because the room once again was not maintaining a comfortable temperature. Having your sleep interrupted multiple nights while traveling is frustrating enough, but it was especially disappointing during a birthday trip that was supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. The hotel later acknowledged that the HVAC issues and room move negatively impacted my stay. While I appreciate the staff’s professionalism throughout the process, I was told a 25% adjustment would be provided and found that the credit applied did not appear to reflect the full amount that was communicated. At the end of the day, the issue isn’t just about compensation. A hotel’s most basic responsibility is providing a comfortable room where guests can sleep, and unfortunately that did not happen during my stay. Between multiple nights of HVAC problems, a room change at 2:00 AM, disrupted sleep during my birthday weekend, and an unsatisfactory resolution, I would not choose to stay here again.

Never seen a more UNETHICAL hotel than the Citizen M in NOMA. I am a travel professional and in town for a travel convention this trip. Many of us had a bock of rooms at this hotel and yesterday when I went to check in at 6:00PM, I was informed that they gave my room away to someone else because I had not checked in before 4:00PM. Nowhere in the agreement was I informed that 4:00 meant a room forfeiture. INSANE. Check in time is 2:00 here, so apparently there is just a 2 hour window before they sell your room to someone else (at a higher price). I pleaded my case with the 'front desk' woman and even reminded here that I have lifetime status, but she said it didn't matter, there was nothing she could do. I jumped on the Marriot Bonvoy app and went through with the process of booking a room just to show her that Marriott was still selling rooms at this property but she insisted that the hotel was at 102% capacity and if I (or anyone else) were to make a reservation we'd be turned away. So that is it, get into DC from the airport and the hotel has no room, no compensation and no interest in finding me a suitable room at any other hotel. The other 4 people in my group had already checked in a day earlier, so each day I met them at the hotel so they could drive to the conference, so while I have not spent any time inside a room, I can tell you that the neighborhood is pretty rough. On my last night in DC, when I arrived to meet the group for dinner, there was a vagrant laying on the ground, passed out drunk, several small bottles of cinnamon whiskey nearby. I know that DC can be a dump, but this is just another reason to avoid this property. There is plenty of competition in this city. I will not forget this experience.

First time staying at a citizen M - really cool concept- very small compact and efficient rooms. The bed fits wall to wall, with the sink and vanity outside of the shower/toilet bathroom area. The design is really modern and stylish and as a solo traveler, the small room size was perfect for me and felt so cozy! The lights and window shades are controlled by the iPad and there are a bunch of different settings- including different colors for the lights and a few settings that play relaxing music and the lights change with the music. Self- service check in was different but they have staff nearby to help out and introduce you to the hotel. The lobby was huge with plenty of sitting areas and a bar and a full buffet breakfast for an additional cost in the morning. Also à la carte options if you just want a croissant or a drink from the coffee bar. Super cute hotel and I would definitely stay there again.

There’s no parking available. Not even for handicapped which I am. I checked in and was told no parking and so I tried to void my check in and they made me pay for a day…even there is no handicap accommodations.
