This is an exceptional hotel with so many artistic, thoughtful details – all at an excellent price. I will be raving about this place to my friends. And i hope my som decides to go to Vassar just so I can stay here again!!

We chose the Heartwood just based on reviews and photos, having never been to Poughkeepsie. It was a charming and serene experience, with a handsome building, clean, stylish and comfortable rooms, and a first-rate staff. The location across the street from Vassar is excellent. I think we got a special deal, so check the prices... but we would happily return.

This hotel was very disappointing, as my family and I were hoping to tour Vassar in the morning but were forced to relocate due to a “scheduling issue.” We reserved the hotel for the correct date (we have multiple confirmation emails) but when we arrived we were told we scheduled the stay a week later. We showed them the emails, but there were no rooms available in the correct size. They offered our family of three a one bed room, and offered to provide an air mattress but stressed that the fit would be tight if not impossible. We decided to move hotels and stay at a Holiday Inn about 15 minutes away (which was also a horrible experience due to a fire bell at 3am but that is a different story). Not only were we turned away from the hotel, but later (it took them 48 hours to reach out) we received a call that included excuses and tried to shift the blame on us. They told us that we had called to reschedule the room, which makes no sense and there was no email or call record of this. When we asked for the number that called them they refused to provide it. This is completely unacceptable and caused my family and I to not only have to travel further to see Vassar, but also get little to no sleep and go hungry in the morning. This is unacceptable, and we will be reaching out to higher management. Great hotel, if only they actually let you stay there!

Beautiful hotel and the location can’t be beat since we were visiting our daughter at Vassar. We’ll definitely be staying there again!

Such a disappointment. Our family was visiting Vassar with our prospective student child and so excited to stay adjacent to the campus, but when we arrived after a long day of travel, we were told we did not have a reservation despite having booked directly with the hotel over three weeks ago, prepaid, and having received two confirmation emails from the hotel. We were offered a single room with an air mattress but told it would be a tight squeeze, so we decided to try our luck elsewhere. To their credit, they offered a refund. But after a night of little sleep in a very noisy chain hotel down the road, I am feeling bitter. It was an egregious mistake. Please do better. And to potential patrons, no matter how many confirmation emails you receive, call ahead.

Has quickly become one of my favorite hotels. Having enjoyed a wonderful stay last year, I was happy to return and recommend to friends visiting NY. The Heartwood is stylish, but more importantly it’s comfortable, with wonderful staff and a sense of calm that greet you immediately upon arrival. Beautiful views of nature (and art works on site, including a fun Vassar x Mark Dion installation). Convenient and beautiful.
