Garbo occupies a tiny space on Vicolo di Santa Margherita, a narrow lane a few steps from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere — arguably Rome's most beautiful square. It is the main gay-oriented venue in Trastevere: not exclusively gay, but clearly so in character. The bar is small, candle-lit, and reliably busy on Thursday through Saturday after midnight. Cocktails are the focus. The crowd mixes local regulars with tourists staying in Trastevere's many hotels. A good option for visitors who want to combine nightlife with the neighbourhood's extraordinary atmosphere.
