Lion and the Rose Victorian Guest House

One of a kind Victorian house in historic Portland, Oregon. This is our 4th visit over a ten year time period. Each visit has been memorable and very pleasant. Dusty and Steve have owned and operated and restored this historical home over 27 years. The detail and comfort of each room is remarkable. Each room comes with a bath and lighting and tasteful colors and transport to Victorian days of the wealthy. The whole house is a masterpiece of attention to detail The breakfast is exquisite with grand dishes and excellent food. Dusty and Steve have spared no detail in restoration. The price is steep but each night and day is a Joy to all who appreciate this era of time. Sadly the house is for sale and the owners will be leaving in September 2019. No one knows the future for this piece if history. Experience as you feel called to indulge for the days are limited.

The hosts are super friendly. Group breakfast felt like eating breakfast with a group of friends, even though we hadn't met anyone there. Very inviting atmosphere. We stayed in the Lavonna which has a cool sun room in the tower.

My Father used to say, "Unmet expectations are premeditated resentments." I have found this to be true in my life. I wasn't sure what to expect at this house. I was very happy about my stay here. From the moment we arrived we were met with warm and welcoming hosts (Dusty and Steve) who made us feel like we belonged there. Like visiting cousins or something. They were both amazing and accommodating hosts. The house itself was wonderfully old and brilliant. None of the rooms are the same. All the small details added up to a very comfortable atmosphere. If you are a craftsman you will find many things to admire. I will definitely be staying here again.

Friendly, attentive staff. A fun stay !

This is a large, beautiful Victorian guest house. We stayed in the garden room which is right at the top of the stairs. The inn is decorated beautifully keeping in mind the era of when the house was built and its namesake. Parking is on the street, but there is typically space available. The location was handy to many restaurants, shops and transit. The Lloyd Mall is easy walking distance and Safeway is close by as well. The area gets a bit sketchy towards the Safeway but generally it’s fine. Lots of places to walk and look at the different houses in the area. Steve, our host, sat with the guests at breakfast and was able to give suggestions about where to eat and knew things about the area. One thing to mention is that the bus runs past the guest house so there’s a bit of street noise and it’s also noisy also when the garbage truck comes by on Monday. The breakfasts were excellent and there were snacks and a fridge for guests to use.

If you are looking for a comfortable and absolutely top notch Bed and Breakfast place search no more. Lion and the Rose wins hands down. We have stayed here several times and it will always be a staple when we are in town. The staff is extremely helpful and professional. If I could rate 10 stars I would. Thank you Dusty and Steve for everything.

Quaint n quiet. Free jellybeans and coffee. Interior is picture perfect. Big porch replete with porch swing.
