I'm a Japanese male university student. I stayed here for two nights from April 25th to 27th, 2026, so I'm leaving a review mainly for Japanese tourists considering this place!
[Price for Service]
I booked through Agoda via a Google Maps link, and it cost ¥8,062 per night. It might seem expensive, but accommodation costs in Hong Kong have risen considerably in recent years. Even though I was on a budget trip, I wanted to avoid dire accommodations like Chungking Mansions, and I was looking for a reasonably clean, private room with a lock, so this was the perfect option for me, and I booked it.
[Location]
It's located in the central part of Hong Kong Island, specifically in the area called "Wan Chai." It's near the tourist spot "Blue House," and while not in the city center, it seems perfectly convenient for general sightseeing. It's about a 10-minute walk from Wan Chai MTR station, close to bus and tram stops, and even within walking distance of the Star Ferry Wan Chai pier (though it takes about 20 minutes...). While some reviews mention the steep slopes and stairs, I didn't particularly find them challenging. As a side note, a 5-minute walk north leads to a shopping street called Stone Nullah Ln. It has supermarkets and bakeries where you can buy things cheaply, so I recommend buying breakfast and drinks there!
[Cleanliness]
It's a common experience that Japanese hotels are so clean that overseas hotels seem dirty in comparison, but this place was quite clean. The building itself shows some signs of age, but there was no dust or excessive dirt. The pillows and blankets were perfectly usable.
However, I noticed something visible through the sheet... and upon lifting it, I found 3-4 strands of hair. It's inexplicable that they were between the mattress and the sheet, and since I didn't see any hair anywhere else, the mystery only deepens, but it's not a pleasant sight.
Also, during my stay, I saw about 5 small insects near the bathroom. The insects were about the size of sesame seeds, moved slowly, and didn't fly, so even I, who dislikes insects, found them easy to deal with. Those who are particularly bothered by insects might want to avoid this hotel, but if you absolutely hate even this level of insect, you might want to abandon your search for budget accommodations and stay in a luxury hotel, or even change your destination from Hong Kong altogether. I think it's quite clean for a hotel in this price range.
[Staff]
All the staff were kind and made sure to make eye contact while communicating. Even with my limited English, I felt I could be understood. Check-in is after 3:00 PM, and includes an explanation of the room and Wi-Fi, and payment of the city tax ($31). Check-out is by 11:00 AM and is simple; you just return the key card.
[Facilities and Services]
Bath towels, slippers, shampoo, and body soap are provided, but there are no amenities such as toothbrushes (apparently this is a Hong Kong regulation that prevents hotels from providing them). Tissues and toilet paper worked fine. The shower temperature and water pressure were comparable to Japan. The ventilation fan is constantly running, so there's some noise, but it's not too bothersome if you close the bathroom door.
The room was on the smaller side, as other reviews mentioned, but I think it's sufficient for sleeping. When I booked through Agoda, I wrote "I'd prefer a larger room if possible," and they kindly changed my single room to a double room. It was perfect for a solo traveler, but I do think it would be cramped for two people.
There are two electrical outlets (Type BF), but no USB charging ports. There was a hairdryer, but no refrigerator in my room. Please note that there doesn't seem to be a shared refrigerator either. You can freely control the heating and cooling.
The front desk has a coffee machine, water dispenser, and microwave that you can use freely, which was very helpful!
【Summary】
I searched for various budget hotels, and I think I found a pretty good place. While there are minor complaints about cleanliness, personally, it didn't bother me at all. Hotels in Hong Kong are generally expensive, so this is probably one of the best options for a reasonably priced stay. I can definitely recommend it to Japanese travelers.
