Hotel Deutsche Eiche on Reichenbachstraße is Munich's best-known gay hotel and one of the oldest landmarks of the city's gay scene. Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Freddie Mercury were regulars in the 1970s and 80s. The building has hotel rooms, a Bavarian restaurant open to all, a roof terrace, and a large gay men's sauna in the same complex.
It sits in the Glockenbachviertel, Munich's gay district, a 10-minute walk from Marienplatz, with bars all around. Rooms are mid-range and fairly simple, and you pay for the location. It books up early for CSD in summer and for the Rosa Wiesn during Oktoberfest. Sauna entry is charged separately from your room.
