Gay Bars in Rhodes: The Honest 2026 Guide

Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change

Evening in Rhodes Town begins at Mandraki harbour, where a bronze stag and doe stand on their columns at the harbour mouth and the yachts swing gently on their lines. Walk through the gates into the walled Old Town and the stone turns warm and gold: the Street of the Knights climbing to the Palace of the Grand Master, cats asleep on the steps, the smell of grilled octopus drifting out of side alleys. Dinner might be pitaroúdia, the island's crisp chickpea fritters, with a glass of local wine, and if you're lucky a small shot of soúma, the Rhodian grape spirit, at the end. The honest summary: Rhodes has one gay bar, Reina in the New Town, a couple of welcoming Old Town addresses for the hours before it fills, and a scene that runs on the summer season.

Legal in one line: Greece decriminalised sex between men in 1951, introduced civil partnerships in 2015 and opened civil marriage to same-sex couples in February 2024 (Law 5089/2024), the first Orthodox-majority country to do so. The legal drinking age is 18.

The scene, in brief

Everything gay on Rhodes after dark happens in Rhodes Town, at the northern tip of the island. The medieval Old Town inside the walls holds the restaurants and the quieter, gay-friendly café-bars; the New Town just north of it holds Reina and the mainstream party strip of Orfanidou Street, known as "Bar Street", which is a straight tourist strip rather than a gay district. Down the east coast, Faliraki and Lindos are busy resorts, but neither GayOut nor Travel Gay lists a gay or LGBTQ+ bar in either. By day, the gay crowd heads to Mandomata, the nudist beach at the south end of Faliraki bay; by night, it comes back to Town. Rhodes has no gay club night, no sauna and no cruising bar.

Reina Gay Bar & Club: the island's gay bar

Reina, at Georgiou Mavrou 165 (Γεωργίου Μαύρου 165) in the New Town, calls itself the only gay bar on Rhodes, and no other source we checked contradicts it. It welcomes the whole LGBTQ+ community and friends, with dancing, cocktails, premium spirits and a terrace. Drag shows and go-go dancers appear on some nights, and the line-up varies by day of the week; GayOut's listing puts the drag on Thursday to Saturday. GayOut describes the crowd as mostly gay men, with a mixed LGBTQ+ following.

Hours and season: listings give Tuesday to Sunday, 21:00–04:00, closed on Mondays. It's a summer bar: Travel Gay says it closes from October through the winter, while GayOut says the season starts in spring. If you're travelling in May, early June or October, check reinabar.com or the bar's social media first. As in most of Greece, nights start late, so there's little point arriving at nine.

Gay-friendly: the Old Town

Mango Bar

Mango Bar (also known as Mango Restaurant) sits at Dorieos Square 3 (Πλατεία Δωριέως), a quiet square near the Old Town's south walls, away from the busier lanes. It isn't a gay bar: it's a family-run café-bar-restaurant with Greek dishes and local wines, a roof terrace over the rooftops and guest rooms upstairs, and GayOut lists it as LGBTQ+-friendly. Reviewers praise the calm square, friendly staff and fair prices, and mention dishes such as grilled squid and feta in filo with honey; reviews from July and August 2026 show it traded through the summer. It's seasonal, roughly April to late October, so it's the obvious place for a slow dinner before walking up to the New Town for Reina.

Perro Negro Boozer

Travel Gay lists Perro Negro Boozer Cocktails in the 100 Shops alley at Sofokli Venizelou 13 as a hidden cocktail bar with an industrial look, 80s music and a loyal local following; look for the neon ALOHA sign. It isn't a gay bar, but it's a relaxed warm-up spot. The hours Travel Gay published in 2025 were 19:00 to about 02:00 or 02:30, closed on Sundays; we couldn't confirm its 2026 hours, so check before you go.

Closed or changed:

    • L'Eternel French Bar, the French-themed rooftop wine and cocktail bar at 18 Platonos Street in the Old Town, is shown as permanently closed on map-based listings in 2026, although a few directories still carry its old hours. We found no sign of a reopening.
    • Berlin Gay Bar, once billed as Greece's first gay bar, has closed, according to GayOut. Older guides may still list it.

    By day: Mandomata

A Rhodes summer night usually starts on a beach. Mandomata, at the south end of Faliraki bay about 14 km from Rhodes Town, is a long-established nudist beach whose far, rocky southern end is the gay spot. You reach it by a steep path down the cliffs; the seabed is rocky, so bring water shoes, and expect to pay about €20 for two sunbeds and an umbrella in peak season. Keep things discreet: sex in public is an offence anywhere in Greece. Our full Rhodes guide covers the beach in detail.

Getting home safely. Rhodes is relaxed for same-sex couples in Rhodes Town and the resorts, but the real risks are practical: rented scooters after a few drinks, and the Mandomata cliff path at dusk. Take a taxi back from the New Town or Faliraki late at night, and save the beach path for daylight and a clear head.

A night out, the Rhodes way

Swim at Mandomata, head back to Town as the light goes, and shower off the salt. Eat late in the Old Town: pitaroúdia, grilled fish or meze on a square like Dorieos, with a carafe of local white. Wander the walls while the stone is still warm, then walk out through the gates to the New Town and Reina once it's past midnight. Next morning, cure it with a freddo espresso by Mandraki harbour and a piece of melekoúni, the Rhodian sesame-and-honey bar, for the road.

    Practical tips

    • Season: the scene runs from late spring to early autumn. From about October to April, Reina is closed and Mango is shut for the winter, and gay Rhodes shrinks to the apps.
    • Where to stay: base yourself in Rhodes Town, inside or near the Old Town walls, so you can walk to dinner and to Reina. See GayOut's gay-friendly hotels in Rhodes.
    • Getting around: the Old Town and New Town are walkable. KTEL buses run from Rhodes Town down the east coast to Faliraki and Lindos; late at night, use a taxi.
    • Apps: with only one bar, Grindr is how much of the island connects, busiest in July and August.
    • Check before you go: small seasonal venues open, move and close often, and listings lag behind. A look at a bar's social media saves a wasted taxi fare.

    Pride and events

Rhodes has no Pride of its own as of October 2026; we found none in Greek or English sources. Back in 2013, a group of residents under the name R.Y.A.N.A. ("Rhodes You Are Not Alone") planned a five-day LGBT tourism event on the island, but there is no regular festival today. The nearest big Pride is Athens Pride, held on Saturday 13 June 2026 in Syntagma Square, with the march at 19:00. Athens is a short flight or an overnight ferry from Rhodes, and it's also where you'll find Greece's year-round gay bars and saunas.

    A few words of Greek

Frequently asked questions

Are there gay bars in Rhodes?

One. Reina Gay Bar & Club, at Georgiou Mavrou 165 in Rhodes New Town, bills itself as the only gay bar on the island, with dancing, cocktails, a terrace and drag or go-go nights. Everything else is gay-friendly rather than gay, such as Mango Bar on Dorieos Square in the Old Town.

When is Reina open?

Reina is seasonal. Listings give Tuesday to Sunday from 21:00 to 04:00, closed on Mondays. Travel Gay says it opens in summer and closes from October through the winter, while GayOut says the season starts in spring, so check its website or social media before you go, especially in May, June and October.

Is L'Eternel French Bar in Rhodes still open?

Probably not. L'Eternel, the French-themed rooftop wine and cocktail bar at 18 Platonos Street in the Old Town, is shown as permanently closed on map-based listings in 2026, although a few directories still carry its old hours. We could not confirm a reopening, so don't plan an evening around it.

Is there a gay scene in Faliraki or Lindos?

Not in the form of bars. Neither GayOut nor Travel Gay lists a gay or LGBTQ+ bar in Faliraki or Lindos. Faliraki's draw for gay travellers is Mandomata, the nudist beach at the south end of the bay, by day; at night, everything gay on the island happens in Rhodes Town.

Is there a Pride in Rhodes?

Not as of October 2026: we found no Rhodes Pride in Greek or English sources. The nearest big Pride is Athens Pride, held on Saturday 13 June 2026 in Syntagma Square, a short flight or an overnight ferry away.
