Barcarello is a rocky stretch of coast in Sferracavallo, north-west of central Palermo. It is the city's best-known gay and naturist bathing spot. There is no sand: people lie out on flat rocks and small concrete platforms and swim straight off them. The gay and naturist crowd collects on the quieter stretches toward the Capo Gallo nature reserve. This is an unofficial spot with almost no facilities, so bring water, shade and sun protection, and wear shoes that can handle the rocks. Take a bus to Sferracavallo and walk the rest. Sferracavallo's seafood restaurants are close by for after the beach.

A beautiful stretch of coast for snorkeling enthusiasts. Unfortunately, there are numerous signs prohibiting swimming. Be careful before swimming; I recommend checking the Ministry's waters website, as this area is subject to numerous swimming restrictions.
