Yard 32 is a gin bar at 32 Strait Street, the narrow lane that was Valletta's sailors' drinking and music-hall quarter in the first half of the twentieth century. It is a mainstream bar that markets itself as gay-friendly and appears in Malta's LGBTQ+ guides; it is not a gay bar. The list runs past 200 gins, with a menu of small plates that lean Maltese and Spanish, and live music on many evenings. Google reviews average 4.7 from nearly 1,300. Tables spill into the alley, and on summer nights it fills fast, so arrive early or book. Opening hours are evening-only and have tended to run Wednesday to Sunday, so check before going. Malta's main gay bars are in St Julian's and Valletta, a short taxi ride apart.

We saw board on the main street , and came a bit before 5pm, for one round, and we stayed for a bit longer, because we really like it. The street is quiet, not busy and you can have normal conversation, which we notice is very rare in Valletta in the previous places that we visit. However, the downside was when the bar next door opened around 6pm and started to put very loud music, in that moment the music in this bar started to go up as well, and then it's started to mix, and it lost the vibe we had until that moment.

If you’re in Valletta, Yard 32 on Strait Street is a must-visit. The selection of gins (over 200!) and artisanal tonics is mind-blowing, and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable—they don't just pour a drink, they craft it in massive balloon glasses with custom garnishes that perfectly complement the botanicals. Pair your drink with a few of their fresh, homemade tapas (the selection is huge), grab a table outside on the historic street, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Excellent service, vibrant energy, and easily one of the best bars in Malta. We will definitely be back!
