The hotel has a couple of big issues. The car park , £16.50 a night is the tightest I have ever encountered, tight turns and pillars so if you have an estate or big 4x4 you won’t find it accommodating! The outside car park was still tricky with bad parking and was full each night. The room was fine and bed comfy. The bathroom… if you have any mobility issues you will struggle to get into the shower/bath as it has a very high side to get over. Also some mould on the shower screen that’s not arrived overnight. Breakfast was a good spread and nice views over the Hoe area. I would use the hotel again if there was a deal on but not at full price as better options available due to issues highlighted
We booked the Crowne Plaza as an overnight stop on our way to our family holiday in Cornwall, and from the moment we checked in the experience was nothing short of superb. A night in this hotel was the first stop on my partners 40th Birthday fortnight, and having been contacted a few days before check-in by the hotel, offering us the option to upgrade to a Premium room with lounge access, I am so glad we did. We were greeted as IHG members on arrival, our room - after check-in - was on the 8th floor and had the most amazing view overlooking the Plymouth Hoe, which was was nothing short of spectacular, but the real bonus was the access to the lounge, as having not been able to find many details of what was included online we didn't know what to expect. The Astor lounge is on the Penthouse top floor, next to Marco Pierre-White's restaurant, and on using our room key to access the lounge this had great views over the Barbican, comfy chilled out seating, WiFi, remote working facilities, a TV, board games, plus free soft drinks (Pepsi, Sprite, J2O's), Lavazza hot drinks from the machine, alcohol free beers, plus snacks such as cookies, fresh fruit and pretzels, all available to help yourself as you wish, and even take back to your room. From 5pm to 7pm they serve alcohol, again completely free, so pints of lager, plus White, Red and Rose wine, no measures, no payment, just a bartender to pour and chat with, and to simply enjoy as part of lounge access. Such a calm and welcoming atmosphere, it was great to just sit, take it all in and enjoy a couple of relaxing drinks before dinner. The breakfast the following day was buffet style, a great choice of hot and cold and - again - help yourself. Breakfast was served in the Marco Pierre-White restaurant on the Penthouse floor, with amazing views of Plymouth, The Barbican, The Hoe and the sea. The staff were amazing from start to finish, super polite and helpful, and it made for a brilliant stop. As an IHG member I was also able to request a later checkout the following morning (something we did when we realised just how great the facilities were in this hotel), allowing my son to sample the pool, steam room and to chill out on the sun terrace. I cannot thank the hotel and it's staff enough for making our stay such a fantastic one, in lovely clean and quiet facilities, and for kickstarting a brilliant 2wk 40th birthday celebration in the South West for my partner. She was made to feel very special, and it truly felt like we received great value; We will be back for sure.
The room had a huge red stain by the bed, at least 12-14 inches in diameter. When I complained the lady at the front desk said she would contact housekeeping. There was no change. The next morning upon checking out, I complained and one lady at the front desk was dismissive. Another lady said it’s a red wine stain and the carpet has been cleaned; it’s just a stain. The carpet is to be replaced. I said it should not be rented out when it’s like that or at least put a mat to cover the stain. It was disgusting and disturbing. I was with a tour group and I assume they didn’t really care about the condition of the rooms seeing they would be getting paid for the room.
Staff very friendly and hotel very good
From the moment I arrive the staff greet you with great warmth and enthusiasm, they are super friendly and make you feel right at home. The hotel is perfectly placed to enjoy all that Plymouth has to offer. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The leisure facilities are accessible and of a high standard including a pool, sauna, steam room and gym. Whether you are staying in Plymouth for business or pleasure, as someone who has stayed in a lot of hotels in the area I would strongly recommend this hotel
I am here for work every week and already 180 days this year. The staff are very accommodating. I would not want to stay anywhere else.
Travelling can sometimes be tiring, but any fatigue disappeared the moment we were greeted by the wonderful reception team. Their friendliness and enthusiasm were infectious, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the very start. An excellent example of hospitality done right.
Excellent service from all staff members. Lily, Gabriella and Jas on reception. Shauna in the restaurant, Michael in the VIP lounge, and Vanessa steering the ship
Great atmosphere, well located hotel with friendly staff and great service. Was welcomed warmly by the receptionists and Ilian at the bar who went out of his way to be helpful. Thanks for the service Ilian
Recently I made a business trip to Plymouth, often working away can be lonely and miserable. This trip was exactly that until I met Ilian, he is a bar tender who took time to cater to our needs. A polite professional, with a great work ethic of putting the customer first. The majority of staff are kind and full of enthusiasm, Ilian goes that extra mile. I’d like to thank all the staff, especially Ilian who is a credit to the Hotel and management. Thank you Ilian
